I am the man that hath seenafflictionby the rodof his wrath. He hath ledme, and brought me into darkness, but not into light. Surelyagainst me is he turned; he turnethhis hand against me allthe day. My fleshand my skinhath he made old; he hath brokenmy bones. He hath builtagainstme, and compassed me with galland travail. He hath setme in dark places, as they that be deadof old. He hath hedgedme about, that I cannotget out: he hath made my chain heavy. AlsowhenI cryand shout, he shutteth outmy prayer. He hath enclosedmy wayswith hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked. He was unto me as a bearlying in wait, and as a lionin secret places. He hath turned asidemy ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath mademe desolate. He hath benthis bow, and setme as a markfor the arrow. He hath caused the arrowsof his quiverto enterinto my reins. I wasa derisionto allmy people; and their songallthe day. He hath filledme with bitterness, he hath made me drunkenwith wormwood. He hath also brokenmy teethwith gravel stones, he hath coveredme with ashes. And thou hast removed my soul far offfrom peace: I forgotprosperity. And I said, My strengthand my hopeis perishedfrom the LORD: Rememberingmine afflictionand my misery, the wormwoodand the gall. My soulhath them still in remembrance, and is humbledinme. ThisI recalltomy mind, thereforehave I hope. It is of the LORD's merciesthatwe are notconsumed, becausehis compassionsfailnot. They are newevery morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saithmy soul; thereforewill I hopein him. The LORD is goodunto them that wait forhim, to the soul that seekethhim. It is goodthat a man should both hopeand quietly waitfor the salvationof the LORD. It is goodfor a manthathe bearthe yokein his youth. He sittethaloneand keepeth silence, becausehe hath borne it uponhim. He puttethhis mouthin the dust; if so bethere may behope. He giveth his cheekto him that smitethhim: he is filled fullwith reproach. Forthe Lordwill notcast offforever: Butthoughhe cause grief, yet will he have compassionaccording to the multitudeof his mercies. Forhe doth notafflictwillinglynor grievethe childrenof men. To crushunderhis feetallthe prisonersof the earth, To turn asidethe rightof a manbeforethe faceof the most High, To subverta manin his cause, the Lordapprovethnot. Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lordcommandeth it not? Out of the mouthof the most Highproceedethnoteviland good? Whereforedoth a livingmancomplain, a manforthe punishment of his sins? Let us searchand tryour ways, and turn againtothe LORD. Let us lift upour heartwith our handsuntoGodin the heavens. Wehave transgressedand have rebelled: thouhast notpardoned. Thou hast coveredwith anger, and persecutedus: thou hast slain, thou hast notpitied. Thou hast coveredthyself with a cloud, that our prayershould not pass through. Thou hast madeus as the offscouringand refusein the midstof the people. Allour enemieshave openedtheir mouthsagainstus. Fearand a snareis comeupon us, desolationand destruction. Mine eyerunneth downwith riversof waterforthe destructionof the daughterof my people. Mine eyetrickleth down, and ceasethnot, without anyintermission, Tillthe LORDlook down, and beholdfrom heaven. Mine eyeaffectethmine heartbecause of allthe daughtersof my city. Mine enemieschased me sore, like a bird, without cause. They have cut offmy lifein the dungeon, and casta stoneupon me. Watersflowedovermine head; then I said, I am cut off. I called uponthy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon. Thou hast heardmy voice: hidenotthine earat my breathing, at my cry. Thou drewest nearin the day that I called uponthee: thou saidst, Fearnot. O Lord, thou hast pleadedthe causesof my soul; thou hast redeemedmy life. O LORD, thou hast seenmy wrong: judgethou my cause. Thou hast seenalltheir vengeance and alltheir imaginationsagainst me. Thou hast heardtheir reproach, O LORD, and alltheir imaginationsagainstme; The lipsof those that rose up againstme, and their deviceagainstme allthe day. Beholdtheir sitting down, and their rising up; I am their music. Renderunto them a recompense, O LORD, according to the workof their hands. Givethem sorrowof heart, thy curseunto them. Persecuteand destroythem in angerfrom underthe heavensof the LORD.
