The wordwhichcameuntoJeremiahfromthe LORD, when Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylon, and allhis army, and allthe kingdomsof the earthof his dominion, and allthe people, foughtagainstJerusalem, and againstallthe citiesthereof, saying, Thussaiththe LORD, the Godof Israel; Goand speaktoZedekiahkingof Judah, and tellhim, Thussaiththe LORD; Behold, I will givethiscityinto the handof the kingof Babylon, and he shall burnit with fire: And thoushalt notescapeout of his hand, butshalt surely be taken, and deliveredinto his hand; and thine eyesshall beholdthe eyesof the kingof Babylon, and he shall speakwiththee mouthto mouth, and thou shalt goto Babylon. Yethearthe wordof the LORD, O Zedekiahkingof Judah; Thussaiththe LORDofthee, Thou shalt notdieby the sword: But thou shalt diein peace: and with the burningsof thy fathers, the formerkingswhichwerebeforethee, soshall they burn odors for thee; and they will lamentthee, saying , Ahlord! forIhave pronouncedthe word, saiththe LORD. Then Jeremiahthe prophetspokeallthesewordsuntoZedekiahkingof Judahin Jerusalem, When the kingof Babylon's armyfoughtagainstJerusalem, and againstallthe citiesof Judahthat were left, againstLachish, and againstAzekah: forthesedefensedcitiesremainedof the citiesof Judah. This is the wordthatcameuntoJeremiahfromthe LORD, after thatthe kingZedekiahhad madea covenantwithallthe peoplewhich were at Jerusalem, to proclaimlibertyunto them; That every manshould let his manservant, and every manhis maidservant, being a Hebrewor a Hebrewess, gofree; that noneshould servehimself of them, to wit , of a Jewhis brother. Now when allthe princes, and allthe people, whichhad enteredinto the covenant, heardthat every oneshould let his manservant, and every onehis maidservant, gofree, that noneshould servethemselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go. But afterwardthey turned, and caused the servantsand the handmaids, whomthey had let gofree, to return, and brought them into subjectionfor servantsand for handmaids. Therefore the wordof the LORDcametoJeremiahfromthe LORD, saying, Thussaiththe LORD, the Godof Israel; Imadea covenantwithyour fathersin the daythat I brought them forthout of the landof Egypt, out of the houseof bondmen, saying, At the endof sevenyearslet ye goevery manhis brothera Hebrew, whichhath been soldunto thee; and when he hath servedthee sixyears, thou shalt let him gofreefromthee: but your fathershearkenednotuntome, neitherinclinedtheir ear. And yewere nowturned, and had donerightin my sight, in proclaiminglibertyevery manto his neighbor; and ye had madea covenantbeforeme in the housewhichis calledbymy name: But ye turnedand pollutedmy name, and caused every manhis servant, and every manhis handmaid, whomye had setat libertyat their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to beunto you for servantsand for handmaids. Thereforethussaiththe LORD; Yehave nothearkeneduntome, in proclaimingliberty, every oneto his brother, and every manto his neighbor: behold, I proclaima libertyfor you, saiththe LORD, tothe sword, tothe pestilence, and tothe famine; and I will makeyou to be removedinto allthe kingdomsof the earth. And I will givethe menthat have transgressedmy covenant, whichhave notperformedthe wordsof the covenantwhichthey had madebeforeme, whenthey cutthe calfin twain, and passedbetweenthe partsthereof, The princesof Judah, and the princesof Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and allthe peopleof the land, which passedbetweenthe partsof the calf; I will even givethem into the handof their enemies, and into the handof them that seektheir life: and their dead bodiesshall befor meatunto the fowlsof the heaven, and to the beastsof the earth. And Zedekiahkingof Judahand his princeswill I giveinto the handof their enemies, and into the handof them that seektheir life, and into the handof the kingof Babylon's army, which are gone upfromyou. Behold, I will command, saiththe LORD, and cause them to returntothiscity; and they shall fightagainstit, and takeit, and burnit with fire: and I will makethe citiesof Judaha desolationwithoutan inhabitant.
