Woeto the rebelliouschildren, saiththe LORD, that takecounsel, but notofme; and that coverwith a covering, but notof my spirit, thatthey may addsintosin: That walkto go downinto Egypt, and have notaskedat my mouth; to strengthenthemselves in the strengthof Pharaoh, and to trustin the shadowof Egypt! Therefore shall the strengthof Pharaohbeyour shame, and the trustin the shadowof Egypt your confusion. Forhis princeswereat Zoan, and his ambassadorscameto Hanes. They were allashamedofa people that could notprofitthem, norbe a helpnorprofit, buta shame, and alsoa reproach. The burdenof the beastsof the south: into the landof troubleand anguish, fromwhence come the youngand old lion, the viperand fiery flying serpent, they will carrytheir richesuponthe shouldersof young asses, and their treasuresuponthe bunchesof camels, toa people that shall notprofit them . For the Egyptiansshall helpin vain, and to no purpose: thereforehave I criedconcerning this, Their strength is to sit still. Nowgo, writeit beforethem ina table, and noteit ina book, that it may befor the timeto comeforeverand ever: Thatthis is a rebelliouspeople, lyingchildren, children that willnothearthe lawof the LORD: Whichsayto the seers, Seenot; and to the prophets, Prophesynotunto us right things, speakunto us smooth things, prophesydeceits: Getyou out ofthe way, turn asideout ofthe path, cause the Holy Oneof Israelto ceasefrom beforeus. Whereforethussaiththe Holy Oneof Israel, Becauseye despisethisword, and trustin oppressionand perverseness, and staythereon: Thereforethisiniquityshall beto you as a breachready to fall, swelling outin a highwall, whosebreakingcomethsuddenlyat an instant. And he shall breakit as the breakingof the potter's vesselthat is broken in pieces; he shall notspare: so that there shall notbe foundin the burstingof it a shardto takefirefrom the hearth, or to takewater withal out of the pit. Forthussaiththe LordGOD, the Holy Oneof Israel; In returningand restshall ye be saved; in quietnessand in confidenceshall beyour strength: and ye wouldnot. But ye said, No; forwe will fleeuponhorses; thereforeshall ye flee: and, We will rideuponthe swift; thereforeshall they that pursueyou be swift. Onethousand shall flee atthe rebukeof one; atthe rebukeof fiveshall ye flee: tillye be leftas a beaconuponthe topof a mountain, and as an ensignona hill. And thereforewill the LORDwait, that he may be graciousunto you, and thereforewill he be exalted, that he may have mercyupon you: forthe LORD is a Godof judgment: blessed are allthey that waitfor him. Forthe peopleshall dwellin Zionat Jerusalem: thou shalt weep no more: he will be very graciousunto thee at the voiceof thy cry; when he shall hearit, he will answerthee. And though the Lordgiveyou the breadof adversity, and the waterof affliction, yet shall notthy teachersbe removed into a cornerany more, but thine eyesshallseethy teachers: And thine earsshall heara wordbehindthee, saying, This is the way, walkye in it, whenye turn to the right hand, and whenye turn to the left. Ye shall defilealso the coveringof thy graven imagesof silver, and the ornamentof thy molten imagesof gold: thou shalt cast them awayasa menstruous cloth; thou shalt sayunto it, Get thee hence. Then shall he givethe rainof thy seed, thatthou shalt sowthe groundwithal; and breadof the increaseof the earth, and it shall befatand plenteous: in thatdayshall thy cattlefeedin largepastures. The oxenlikewise and the young assesthat earthe groundshall eatcleanprovender, whichhath been winnowedwith the shoveland with the fan. And there shall beuponeveryhighmountain, and uponeveryhighhill, rivers and streamsof watersin the dayof the greatslaughter, when the towersfall. Moreover the lightof the moonshall beas the lightof the sun, and the lightof the sunshall besevenfold, as the lightof sevendays, in the daythat the LORDbindeth upthe breachof his people, and healeththe strokeof their wound. Behold, the nameof the LORDcomethfrom far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lipsare fullof indignation, and his tongueas a devouringfire: And his breath, as an overflowingstream, shall reach to the midstofthe neck, to siftthe nationswith the sieveof vanity: and there shall be a bridleinthe jawsof the people, causing them to err. Ye shall havea song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladnessof heart, as when one goethwith a pipeto comeinto the mountainof the LORD, tothe mighty Oneof Israel. And the LORDshall cause his gloriousvoiceto be heard, and shall showthe lighting downof his arm, with the indignationof his anger, and with the flameof a devouringfire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones. Forthrough the voiceof the LORDshall the Assyrianbe beaten down, which smotewith a rod. And in every placewhere the groundedstaffshall pass, whichthe LORDshall layuponhim, it shall bewith tabretsand harps: and in battlesof shakingwill he fightwith it. ForTophet is ordainedof old; yea, for the kingitis prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pilethereof is fireand muchwood; the breathof the LORD, like a streamof brimstone, doth kindleit.
