And afterwardMosesand Aaronwent in, and toldPharaoh, Thussaiththe LORDGodof Israel, Let my peoplego, that they may hold a feastunto me in the wilderness. And Pharaohsaid, Who is the LORD, thatI should obeyhis voiceto let Israelgo? I knownotthe LORD, neitherwill I let Israelgo. And they said, The Godof the Hebrewshath metwithus: let us go, we pray thee, threedays' journeyinto the desert, and sacrificeunto the LORDour God; lesthe fall uponus with pestilence, orwith the sword. And the kingof Egyptsaiduntothem, Whereforedo ye, Mosesand Aaron, letthe peoplefrom their works? getyou unto your burdens. And Pharaohsaid, Behold, the peopleof the landnow are many, and ye make them restfrom their burdens. And Pharaohcommandedthe samedaythe taskmastersof the people, and their officers, saying, Ye shall nomoregivethe peoplestrawto makebrick, as heretofore: let themgoand gatherstrawfor themselves. And the taleof the bricks, whichtheydid makeheretofore, ye shall layuponthem; ye shall notdiminish aught thereof: forthey be idle; thereforetheycry, saying, Let us go and sacrificeto our God. Let there more work be laiduponthe men, that they may labortherein; and let them notregardvainwords. And the taskmastersof the peoplewent out, and their officers, and they spoketothe people, saying, ThussaithPharaoh, I will notgiveyou straw. Goye, getyou strawwhereye can findit: yetnotaughtof your workshall be diminished. So the peoplewere scattered abroadthroughout allthe landof Egyptto gatherstubbleinstead of straw. And the taskmastershasted them , saying, Fulfillyour works, your dailytasks, as whenthere wasstraw. And the officersof the childrenof Israel, whichPharaoh's taskmastershad setoverthem, were beaten, and demanded, Whereforehave ye notfulfilledyour taskin making brickbothyesterdayandtoday, as heretofore? Then the officersof the childrenof Israelcameand crieduntoPharaoh, saying, Whereforedealestthou thuswith thy servants? There is nostrawgivenunto thy servants, and they sayto us, Makebrick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people. But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: thereforeyesay, Let us go and do sacrificeto the LORD. Gotherefore now, and work; for there shall nostrawbe givenyou, yet shall ye deliverthe taleof bricks. And the officersof the childrenof Israeldid see that they were in evil case , after it was said, Ye shall notminish aught from your bricksof your dailytask. And they metMosesand Aaron, who stoodin the way, as they came forthfromPharaoh: And they saiduntothem, The LORDlookuponyou, and judge; becauseye have made our savorto be abhorredin the eyesof Pharaoh, and in the eyesof his servants, to puta swordin their handto slayus. And Mosesreturneduntothe LORD, and said, Lord, whereforehast thou so evil entreatedthispeople? why is it that thou hast sentme? For sinceI cametoPharaohto speakin thy name, he hath done evilto thispeople; neitherhast thou deliveredthy peopleat all.
