And the peoplethirstedtherefor water; and the peoplemurmuredagainstMoses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us upout of Egypt, to killus and our childrenand our cattlewith thirst? And Mosescrieduntothe LORD, saying, Whatshall I dounto thispeople? they be almostreadyto stoneme. And the LORDsaiduntoMoses, Go onbeforethe people, and takewiththee of the eldersof Israel; and thy rod, wherewiththou smotestthe river, takein thine hand, and go. Behold, I will standbeforethee thereuponthe rockin Horeb; and thou shalt smitethe rock, and there shall comewaterout ofit, that the peoplemay drink. And Mosesdidsoin the sightof the eldersof Israel. And he calledthe nameof the placeMassah, and Meribah, because ofthe chidingof the childrenof Israel, and becausethey temptedthe LORD, saying, Isthe LORDamongus, ornot? Then cameAmalek, and foughtwithIsraelin Rephidim. And MosessaiduntoJoshua, Choose us outmen, and go out, fightwith Amalek: tomorrowIwill standonthe topof the hillwith the rodof Godin mine hand. So JoshuadidasMoseshad saidto him, and foughtwith Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hurwent upto the topof the hill. And it came to pass, whenMosesheld uphis hand, that Israelprevailed: and whenhe let downhis hand, Amalekprevailed. But Moses' hands were heavy; and they tooka stone, and put it underhim, and he satthereon; and Aaronand Hurstayed uphis hands, the oneon the one side, and the otheron the other side; and his handsweresteadyuntilthe going downof the sun. And JoshuadiscomfitedAmalekand his peoplewith the edgeof the sword. And the LORDsaiduntoMoses, Writethis for a memorialin a book, and rehearse it in the earsof Joshua: forI will utterly put outthe remembranceof Amalekfrom underheaven. And Mosesbuiltan altar, and calledthe nameof it Jehovah-nissi: For he said, Becausethe LORDhath sworn that the LORD will have warwith Amalekfrom generationto generation.
