A Prayerof Mosesthe manof God. Lord, thouhast beenour dwelling placein all generations. Beforethe mountainswere brought forth, or ever thou hadst formedthe earthand the world, even from everlastingtoeverlasting, thou art God. Thou turnestmantodestruction; and sayest, Return, ye childrenof men. Fora thousandyearsin thy sight are but as yesterdaywhenit is past, and as a watchin the night. Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up. In the morningit flourisheth, and groweth up; in the eveningit is cut down, and withereth. Forwe are consumedby thine anger, and by thy wrathare we troubled. Thou hast setour iniquitiesbeforethee, our secret sins in the lightof thy countenance. Forallour daysare passed awayin thy wrath: we spendour yearsasa tale that is told . The daysof our years are threescore years and ten; and ifby reason of strength they be fourscoreyears, yet is their strengthlaborand sorrow; forit is sooncut off, and we fly away. Whoknoweththe powerof thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. Soteach us to numberour days, that we may apply our heartsunto wisdom. Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repentthee concerningthy servants. O satisfyus earlywith thy mercy; that we may rejoiceand be gladallour days. Make us gladaccording to the days wherein thou hast afflictedus, and the years wherein we have seenevil. Let thy workappearuntothy servants, and thy gloryuntotheir children. And let the beautyof the LORDour Godbeuponus: and establishthou the workof our handsuponus; yea, the workof our handsestablishthou it.
