To the chief MusicianuponGittith, A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloudunto Godour strength: make a joyful noiseunto the Godof Jacob. Takea psalm, and bringhither the timbrel, the pleasantharpwiththe psaltery. Blow upthe trumpetin the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feastday. Forthis was a statutefor Israel, and a lawof the Godof Jacob. This he ordainedin Joseph for a testimony, when he went outthroughthe landof Egypt: where I hearda language that I understoodnot. I removedhis shoulderfrom the burden: his handswere deliveredfrom the pots. Thou calledstin trouble, and I deliveredthee; I answeredthee in the secret placeof thunder: I provedthee atthe watersof Meribah. Selah. Hear, O my people, and I will testifyunto thee: O Israel, ifthou wilt hearkenunto me; There shall nostrangegodbein thee; neithershalt thou worshipany strangegod. I am the LORDthy God, which broughtthee out of the landof Egypt: open thy mouthwide, and I will fillit. But my peoplewould nothearkento my voice; and Israelwouldnoneof me. So I gave them upunto their own hearts' lust: and they walkedin their own counsels. Oh thatmy peoplehad hearkenedunto me, and Israelhad walkedin my ways! I should soonhave subduedtheir enemies, and turnedmy handagainsttheir adversaries. The hatersof the LORDshould have submittedthemselves unto him: but their timeshould have enduredforever. He should have fedthem also with the finestof the wheat: and with honeyout of the rockshould I have satisfiedthee.
