Man that is bornof a woman is of fewdays, and fullof trouble. He cometh forthlike a flower, and is cut down: he fleethalso as a shadow, and continuethnot. Anddost thou openthine eyesuponsuch a one, and bringestme into judgmentwiththee? Whocan bringa clean thing out of an unclean? notone. Seeinghis days are determined, the numberof his months are withthee, thou hast appointedhis boundsthat he cannotpass; Turnfromhim, that he may rest, tillhe shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day. Forthere ishopeof a tree, ifit be cut down, that it will sproutagain, and that the tenderbranch thereof will notcease. Thoughthe rootthereof wax oldin the earth, and the stockthereof diein the ground; Yet through the scentof waterit will bud, and bring forthboughslikea plant. But mandieth, and wasteth away: yea, mangiveth up the ghost, and where is he? As the watersfailfromthe sea, and the flooddecayethand drieth up: So manlieth down, and risethnot: tillthe heavens be no more, they shall notawake, norbe raisedout of their sleep. O thatthou wouldesthideme in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, untilthy wrathbe past, that thou wouldest appointme a set time, and rememberme! Ifa mandie, shall he live again ? allthe daysof my appointed timewill I wait, tillmy changecome. Thou shalt call, and Iwill answerthee: thou wilt have a desireto the workof thine hands. Fornowthou numberestmy steps: dost thou notwatchovermy sin? My transgression is sealed upin a bag, and thou sewest upmine iniquity. And surelythe mountainfallingcometh to naught, and the rockis removedout of his place. The waterswearthe stones: thou washest awaythe things which grow out of the dustof the earth; and thou destroyestthe hopeof man. Thou prevailestforeveragainst him, and he passeth: thou changesthis countenance, and sendest him away. His sonscome to honor, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it notof them. Buthis fleshuponhim shall have pain, and his soulwithinhim shall mourn.
