And when thesedayswere expired, the kingmadea feastunto allthe peoplethat were presentin Shushanthe palace, both unto greatand small, sevendays, in the courtof the gardenof the king's palace; Where were white, green, and blue, hangings , fastenedwith cordsof fine linenand purpletosilverringsand pillarsof marble: the beds were of goldand silver, upona pavementof red, and blue, and white, and black marble. And they gave them drinkin vesselsof gold, (the vesselsbeing diverseone from another,) and royalwinein abundance, according to the stateof the king. And the drinking was according to the law; nonedid compel: forsothe kinghad appointedtoallthe officersof his house, that they should doaccording to every man's pleasure. AlsoVashtithe queenmadea feastfor the women in the royalhousewhich belonged to kingAhasuerus. On the seventhday, when the heartof the kingwas merrywith wine, he commandedMehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the sevenchamberlainsthat servedin the presenceof Ahasuerusthe king, To bringVashtithe queenbeforethe kingwith the crownroyal, to showthe peopleand the princesher beauty: forshe was fairto look on. But the queenVashtirefusedto comeat the king's commandmentby his chamberlains: therefore was the kingverywroth, and his angerburnedin him. Then the kingsaidto the wise men, which knewthe times, ( forso was the king's mannertowardallthat knewlawand judgment: And the nextuntohim was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the sevenprincesof Persiaand Media, which sawthe king's face, and which satthe firstin the kingdom;) Whatshall we dounto the queenVashtiaccording to law, becauseshe hath notperformedthe commandmentof the kingAhasuerusbythe chamberlains? And Memucanansweredbeforethe kingand the princes, Vashtithe queenhath notdone wrongtothe kingonly, butalso toallthe princes, and toallthe peoplethat are in allthe provincesof the kingAhasuerus. For this deedof the queenshall come abroaduntoallwomen, so that they shall despisetheir husbandsin their eyes, when it shall be reported, The kingAhasueruscommandedVashtithe queento be brought inbeforehim, but she camenot. Likewise shall the ladiesof Persiaand Mediasaythisdayunto allthe king's princes, whichhave heard ofthe deedof the queen. Thus shall there arise too muchcontemptand wrath. Ifit pleasethe king, let there goa royalcommandmentfromhim, and let it be writtenamong the lawsof the Persiansand the Medes, that it be notaltered, ThatVashticomenomore beforekingAhasuerus; and let the kinggiveher royal estateunto anotherthat is betterthanshe. And when the king's decreewhichhe shall makeshall be publishedthroughout allhis empire, ( foritis great,) allthe wivesshall giveto their husbandshonor, both to greatand small. And the sayingpleasedthe kingand the princes; and the kingdidaccording to the wordof Memucan: For he sentlettersintoallthe king's provinces, intoevery provinceaccording to the writingthereof, and toevery peopleafter their language, that everymanshouldbear rulein his own house, and that it should be publishedaccording to the languageof every people.
