Afterthesethings, and the establishmentthereof, Sennacheribkingof Assyriacame, and enteredinto Judah, and encampedagainstthe fencedcities, and thoughtto winthem forhimself. And when HezekiahsawthatSennacheribwas come, and that he was purposedto fightagainstJerusalem, He took counselwithhis princesand his mighty mento stopthe watersof the fountainswhich were withoutthe city: and they did helphim. So there was gatheredmuchpeopletogether, who stoppedallthe fountains, and the brookthat ranthrough the midstof the land, saying, Whyshould the kingsof Assyriacome, and findmuchwater? Also he strengthened himself, and built upallthe wallthat was broken, and raised it uptothe towers, and anotherwallwithout, and repairedMillo in the cityof David, and madedartsand shieldsin abundance. And he setcaptainsof waroverthe people, and gathered them togethertohim inthe streetof the gateof the city, and spokecomfortablyto them, saying, Be strongand courageous, be not afraidnordismayedforthe kingof Assyria, nor forallthe multitudethat is withhim: for there be morewithus than withhim: Withhim is an armof flesh; but withus is the LORDour Godto helpus, and to fightour battles. And the peoplerested themselvesuponthe wordsof Hezekiahkingof Judah. Afterthisdid Sennacheribkingof Assyriasendhis servantsto Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege againstLachish, and allhis powerwithhim,) untoHezekiahkingof Judah, and untoallJudahthat were at Jerusalem, saying, ThussaithSennacheribkingof Assyria, Whereondo yetrust, that ye abidein the siegein Jerusalem? Doth notHezekiahpersuadeyou to give overyourselves to dieby famineand by thirst, saying, The LORDour Godshall deliverus out of the handof the kingof Assyria? Hath notthe sameHezekiahtaken awayhis high placesand his altars, and commandedJudahand Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worshipbeforeonealtar, and burn incenseuponit? Knowye notwhatIand my fathershave doneunto allthe peopleof other lands? were the godsof the nationsof those landsany ways ableto delivertheir landsout of mine hand? Who was there among allthe godsof thosenationsthatmy fathersutterly destroyed, thatcoulddeliverhis peopleout of mine hand, thatyour Godshould be ableto deliveryou out of mine hand? Nowtherefore let notHezekiahdeceiveyou, norpersuadeyou on this manner, neitheryet believehim: fornogodof anynationor kingdomwas ableto deliverhis peopleout of mine hand, and out of the handof my fathers: how much lessshall your Goddeliveryou out of mine hand? And his servantsspokeyet more againstthe LORDGod, and againsthis servantHezekiah. He wrotealso lettersto railon the LORDGodof Israel, and to speakagainsthim, saying, As the godsof the nationsof other landshave notdeliveredtheir peopleout of mine hand, soshall notthe Godof Hezekiahdeliverhis peopleout of mine hand. Then they criedwith a loudvoicein the Jews' speechuntothe peopleof Jerusalemthat were onthe wall, to frightenthem, and to troublethem; thatthey might takethe city. And they spokeagainstthe Godof Jerusalem, as againstthe godsof the peopleof the earth, which were the workof the handsof man. And forthis cause Hezekiahthe king, and the prophetIsaiahthe sonof Amoz, prayedand criedto heaven. And the LORDsentan angel, which cut offallthe mighty menof valor, and the leadersand captainsin the campof the kingof Assyria. So he returnedwith shameof faceto his own land. And when he was come intothe houseof his god, they that came forthof his own bowelsslewhim therewith the sword. Thus the LORDsavedHezekiahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemfrom the handof Sennacheribthe kingof Assyria, and from the handof all other , and guidedthem on every side. And manybroughtgiftsunto the LORDto Jerusalem, and presentsto Hezekiahkingof Judah: so that he was magnifiedin the sightof allnationsfrom thenceforth. In thosedaysHezekiahwas sicktothe death, and prayeduntothe LORD: and he spokeunto him, and he gavehim a sign. But Hezekiahrendered not againaccording to the benefit done untohim; forhis heartwas lifted up: therefore there waswrathuponhim, and uponJudahand Jerusalem. Notwithstanding Hezekiahhumbled himselffor the prideof his heart, both heand the inhabitantsof Jerusalem, so that the wrathof the LORDcamenotuponthem in the daysof Hezekiah. And Hezekiahhadexceedingmuchrichesand honor: and he madehimself treasuriesfor silver, and for gold, and for preciousstones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all mannerof pleasantjewels; Storehousesalso for the increaseof corn, and wine, and oil; and stallsfor all mannerof beasts, and cotesfor flocks. Moreover he providedhim cities, and possessionsof flocksand herdsin abundance: forGodhad givenhim substanceverymuch. This sameHezekiahalso stoppedthe upperwatercourseof Gihon, and brought it straightdownto the west sideof the cityof David. And Hezekiahprosperedin allhis works. Howbeitin the business of the ambassadorsof the princesof Babylon, who sentuntohim to inquire ofthe wonderthatwas done in the land, Godlefthim, to tryhim, that he might knowall that was in his heart. Now the restof the actsof Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are writtenin the visionof Isaiahthe prophet, the sonof Amoz, and inthe bookof the kingsof Judahand Israel. And Hezekiahsleptwithhis fathers, and they buriedhim in the chiefestof the sepulchersof the sonsof David: and allJudahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemdidhim honorat his death. And Manassehhis sonreignedin his stead.
