Then allthe peopleof JudahtookUzziah, who was sixteenyearsold, and made him kingin the room ofhis fatherAmaziah. HebuiltEloth, and restoredit to Judah, after thatthe kingsleptwithhis fathers. Sixteenyearsold was Uzziahwhen he began to reign, and he reignedfiftyand twoyearsin Jerusalem. His mother's namealso was JecoliahofJerusalem. And he did that which was rightin the sightof the LORD, according to allthathis fatherAmaziahdid. And he soughtGodin the daysof Zechariah, who had understandingin the visionsof God: and as long ashe soughtthe LORD, Godmade him to prosper. And he went forthand warredagainst the Philistines, and broke downthe wallof Gath, and the wallof Jabneh, and the wallof Ashdod, and builtcitiesabout Ashdod, and among the Philistines. And Godhelpedhim againstthe Philistines, and againstthe Arabiansthat dweltin Gur-baal, and the Mehunims. And the Ammonitesgavegiftsto Uzziah: and his namespread abroad even tothe entering inof Egypt; forhe strengthened himself exceedingly. Moreover Uzziahbuilttowersin Jerusalematthe cornergate, and atthe valleygate, and atthe turning of the wall , and fortifiedthem. Also he builttowersin the desert, and diggedmanywells: forhe hadmuchcattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also , and vinedressersin the mountains, and in Carmel: forhe lovedhusbandry. Moreover Uzziahhada hostof fighting men, that went outto warby bands, according to the numberof their accountby the handof Jeielthe scribeand Maaseiahthe ruler, underthe handof Hananiah, one of the king's captains. The wholenumberof the chiefof the fathersof the mighty menof valor were two thousandand sixhundred. And undertheir hand was an army, threehundredthousandand seventhousandand fivehundred, that madewarwith mightypower, to helpthe kingagainstthe enemy. And Uzziahpreparedfor them throughout allthe hostshields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones. And he madein Jerusalemengines, inventedby cunning men, to beonthe towersand uponthe bulwarks, to shootarrowsand greatstoneswithal. And his namespreadfar abroad; forhe was marvelouslyhelped, tillhe was strong. But when he was strong, his heartwas lifted upto his destruction: for he transgressedagainst the LORDhis God, and wentintothe templeof the LORDto burn incenseuponthe altarof incense. And Azariahthe priestwent inafterhim, and withhim fourscorepriestsof the LORD, that were valiant men: And they withstoodUzziahthe king, and saidunto him, It appertaineth notunto thee, Uzziah, to burn incenseunto the LORD, butto the prieststhe sonsof Aaron, that are consecratedto burn incense: go outofthe sanctuary; forthou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honorfrom the LORDGod. Then Uzziahwas wroth, and had a censerin his handto burn incense: and while he was wrothwiththe priests, the leprosyeven rose upin his foreheadbeforethe priestsin the houseof the LORD, from besidethe incensealtar. And Azariahthe chiefpriest, and allthe priests, lookeduponhim, and, behold, he was leprousin his forehead, and they thrust him outfrom thence; yea, himselfhastedalsoto go out, becausethe LORDhad smittenhim. And Uzziahthe kingwasa leperuntothe dayof his death, and dweltin a severalhouse, being a leper; forhe was cut offfrom the houseof the LORD: and Jothamhis son was overthe king's house, judgingthe peopleof the land. Now the restof the actsof Uzziah, firstand last, did Isaiahthe prophet, the sonof Amoz, write. So Uzziahsleptwithhis fathers, and they buriedhim withhis fathersin the fieldof the burialwhich belonged to the kings; forthey said, He is a leper: and Jothamhis sonreignedin his stead.
