Now Jehoshaphatsleptwithhis fathers, and was buriedwithhis fathersin the cityof David. And Jehoramhis sonreignedin his stead. And he had brethrenthe sonsof Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: allthese were the sonsof Jehoshaphatkingof Israel. And their fathergavethem greatgiftsof silver, and of gold, and of precious things, withfencedcitiesin Judah: but the kingdomgavehe to Jehoram; becausehe was the firstborn. Now when Jehoramwas risen uptothe kingdomof his father, he strengthened himself, and slewallhis brethrenwith the sword, and divers alsoof the princesof Israel. Jehoram was thirtyand twoyearsoldwhen he began to reign, and he reignedeightyearsin Jerusalem. And he walkedin the wayof the kingsof Israel, like asdidthe houseof Ahab: forhe hadthe daughterof Ahabto wife: and he wrought that which was evilin the eyesof the LORD. Howbeit the LORDwouldnotdestroythe houseof David, because ofthe covenantthathe had madewith David, and ashe promisedto givea lightto him and to his sonsforever. In his daysthe Edomitesrevoltedfrom underthe dominionof Judah, and madethemselves a king. Then Jehoramwent forthwithhis princes, and allhis chariotswithhim: and he rose upby night, and smotethe Edomiteswhich compassedhim in, and the captainsof the chariots. So the Edomitesrevoltedfrom underthe handof Judahuntothisday. The sametime also did Libnahrevoltfrom underhis hand; becausehe had forsakenthe LORDGodof his fathers. Moreoverhemadehigh placesin the mountainsof Judah, and caused the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto commit fornication, and compelledJudah thereto . And there camea writingtohim from Elijahthe prophet, saying, Thussaiththe LORDGodof Davidthy father, Becausethou hast notwalkedin the waysof Jehoshaphatthy father, nor in the waysof Asakingof Judah, But hast walkedin the wayof the kingsof Israel, and hast made Judahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto go a whoring, like to the whoredomsof the houseof Ahab, and alsohast slainthy brethrenof thy father's house, which were betterthanthyself: Behold, with a greatplaguewill the LORDsmitethy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and allthy goods: And thou shalt have greatsicknessby diseaseof thy bowels, untilthy bowelsfall outby reason ofthe sicknessdaybyday. Moreover the LORDstirred upagainstJehoramthe spiritof the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were nearthe Ethiopians: And they came upinto Judah, and broke intoit, and carried awayallthe substancethat was foundin the king's house, and his sonsalso, and his wives; so that there was nevera sonlefthim, saveJehoahaz, the youngestof his sons. And afterallthisthe LORDsmotehim in his bowelswith an incurabledisease. And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the endof twoyears, his bowelsfell outby reason ofhis sickness: so he diedof sorediseases. And his peoplemadenoburningfor him, like the burningof his fathers. Thirtyand twoyears oldwashe when he began to reign, and he reignedin Jerusalemeightyears, and departedwithoutbeing desired. Howbeit they buriedhim in the cityof David, but notin the sepulchersof the kings.
