Now Jehoshaphathadrichesand honorin abundance, and joined affinitywith Ahab. And after certain yearshe went downtoAhabto Samaria. And Ahabkilledsheepand oxenfor him in abundance, and for the peoplethat he had withhim, and persuadedhim to go up with him toRamoth-gilead. And Ahabkingof IsraelsaiduntoJehoshaphatkingof Judah, Wilt thou gowithme to Ramoth-gilead? And he answeredhim, I am as thou art , and my peopleas thy people; and we will be withthee in the war. And Jehoshaphatsaiduntothe kingof Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the wordof the LORDtoday. Therefore the kingof Israelgathered togetherof prophetsfourhundredmen, and saiduntothem, Shall we gotoRamoth-gilead to battle, orshall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for Godwill deliver it into the king's hand. But Jehoshaphatsaid, Is there notherea prophetof the LORDbesides, that we might inquireof him? And the kingof IsraelsaiduntoJehoshaphat, There is yetoneman, by whomwe may inquireof the LORD: but Ihatehim; forhe neverprophesiedgooduntome, butalwaysevil: the same is Micaiahthe sonof Imla. And Jehoshaphatsaid, Let notthe kingsayso. And the kingof Israelcalledforone of his officers, and said, Fetch quicklyMicaiahthe sonof Imla. And the kingof Israeland Jehoshaphatkingof Judahsateitherof them onhis throne, clothedin their robes, and they satin a void placeat the entering inof the gateof Samaria; and allthe prophetsprophesiedbeforethem. And Zedekiahthe sonof Chenaanahhad madehim hornsof iron, and said, Thussaiththe LORD, With thesethou shalt pushSyriauntilthey be consumed. And allthe prophetsprophesiedso, saying, Go upto Ramoth-gilead, and prosper: for the LORDshall deliver it into the handof the king. And the messengerthatwentto callMicaiahspoketohim, saying, Behold, the wordsof the prophets declare goodtothe kingwith oneassent; let thy wordtherefore, I pray thee, belike oneoftheirs, and speakthou good. And Micaiahsaid, As the LORDliveth, evenwhatmy Godsaith, that will I speak. And when he was cometothe king, the kingsaiduntohim, Micaiah, shall we gotoRamoth-gilead to battle, orshall I forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and prosper, and they shall be deliveredinto your hand. And the kingsaidtohim, How manytimesshall Iadjurethee thatthou saynothingbutthe truthtome in the nameof the LORD? Then he said, I did seeallIsraelscattereduponthe mountains, as sheepthathave noshepherd: and the LORDsaid, Thesehave nomaster; let them return therefore every manto his housein peace. And the kingof IsraelsaidtoJehoshaphat, Did I nottellthee that he would notprophesygooduntome, butevil? Again he said, Thereforehearthe wordof the LORD; I sawthe LORDsittinguponhis throne, and allthe hostof heavenstandingonhis right handand on his left. And the LORDsaid, Whoshall enticeAhabkingof Israel, that he may go upand fallat Ramoth-gilead? And onespokesayingafter this manner, and anothersayingafter that manner. Then there came outa spirit, and stoodbeforethe LORD, and said, Iwill enticehim. And the LORDsaiduntohim, Wherewith? And he said, I will go out, and bea lyingspiritin the mouthof allhis prophets. And the LORD said, Thou shalt entice him , and thou shalt alsoprevail: go out, and do even so. Nowtherefore, behold, the LORDhath puta lyingspiritin the mouthof thesethy prophets, and the LORDhath spokenevilagainstthee. Then Zedekiahthe sonof Chenaanahcame near, and smoteMicaiahuponthe cheek, and said, Whichwaywentthe Spiritof the LORDfromme to speakuntothee? And Micaiahsaid, Behold, thou shalt seeon thatdaywhenthou shalt gointo an inner chamberto hide thyself. Then the kingof Israelsaid, Takeye Micaiah, and carry him backtoAmonthe governorof the city, and toJoashthe king's son; And say, Thussaiththe king, Putthis fellow in the prison, and feedhim with breadof afflictionand with waterof affliction, untilI returnin peace. And Micaiahsaid, Ifthou certainly returnin peace, then hath notthe LORDspokenby me. And he said, Hearken, allye people. So the kingof Israeland Jehoshaphatthe kingof Judahwent uptoRamoth-gilead. And the kingof IsraelsaiduntoJehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and will goto the battle; but put thou onthy robes. So the kingof Israeldisguised himself; and they wentto the battle. Now the kingof Syriahad commandedthe captainsof the chariotsthat were with him, saying, Fightye notwithsmallorgreat, saveonlywiththe kingof Israel. And it came to pass, when the captainsof the chariotssawJehoshaphat, that theysaid, It is the kingof Israel. Therefore they compassedabouthim to fight: but Jehoshaphatcried out, and the LORDhelpedhim; and Godmovedthem to depart fromhim. For it came to pass, that, when the captainsof the chariotsperceivedthatit wasnotthe kingof Israel, they turned back againfrom pursuinghim. And a certain mandrewa bowat a venture, and smotethe kingof Israelbetweenthe jointsof the harness: therefore he saidto his chariot man, Turnthine hand, that thou mayest carry me outofthe host; forI am wounded. And the battleincreasedthatday: howbeit the kingof Israelstayed himself upin his chariotagainstthe Syriansuntilthe even: and about the timeof the sungoing downhe died.
