In the sixand thirtiethyearof the reignof AsaBaashakingof Israelcame upagainstJudah, and builtRamah, to the intent that he might letnonego outor come into Asakingof Judah. Then Asabrought outsilverand goldout of the treasuresof the houseof the LORDand of the king's house, and senttoBen-hadad kingof Syria, that dweltat Damascus, saying, There is a leaguebetweenme and thee, as there was betweenmy fatherand thy father: behold, I have sentthee silverand gold; go, breakthy leaguewithBaashakingof Israel, that he may departfromme. And Ben-hadad hearkeneduntokingAsa, and sentthe captainsof hisarmiesagainstthe citiesof Israel; and they smoteIjon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and allthe storecitiesof Naphtali. And it came to pass, when Baashaheard it , that he left offbuildingof Ramah, and let his workcease. Then Asathe kingtookallJudah; and they carried awaythe stonesof Ramah, and the timberthereof, wherewithBaashawas building; and he builttherewith Gebaand Mizpah. And at thattimeHananithe seercametoAsakingof Judah, and saiduntohim, Because thou hast reliedonthe kingof Syria, and notreliedonthe LORDthy God, thereforeis the hostof the kingof Syriaescapedout of thine hand. Werenotthe Ethiopiansand the Lubimsa hugehost, with verymanychariotsand horsemen? yet, because thou didst relyonthe LORD, he deliveredthem into thine hand. Forthe eyesof the LORDrun to and frothroughout the wholeearth, to show himself strongin the behalf of them whose heart is perfecttowardhim. Hereinthou hast done foolishly: thereforefrom henceforththou shalt havewars. Then Asawas wrothwiththe seer, and puthim in a prisonhouse; for he was in a ragewithhim because ofthis thing . And Asaoppressed some ofthe peoplethe sametime. And, behold, the actsof Asa, firstand last, lo, they are writteninthe bookof the kingsof Judahand Israel. And Asain the thirtyand ninthyearof his reignwas diseasedin his feet, untilhis disease was exceeding great : yetin his diseasehe soughtnotto the LORD, butto the physicians. And Asasleptwithhis fathers, and diedin the oneand fortiethyearof his reign. And they buriedhim in his own sepulchers, whichhe had madefor himself in the cityof David, and laidhim in the bedwhichwas filledwith sweet odorsand divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' art: and they madea verygreatburningfor him.
