And it came to pass, when Rehoboamhad establishedthe kingdom, and had strengthenedhimself, he forsookthe lawof the LORD, and allIsraelwithhim. And it came to pass, that in the fifthyearof kingRehoboamShishakkingof Egyptcame upagainstJerusalem, becausethey had transgressedagainst the LORD, With twelve hundredchariots, and threescorethousandhorsemen: and the people were withoutnumberthatcamewithhim out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians. And he tookthe fencedcitieswhich pertained to Judah, and cametoJerusalem. Then cameShemaiahthe prophettoRehoboam, and to the princesof Judah, thatwere gathered togethertoJerusalembecause ofShishak, and saidunto them, Thussaiththe LORD, Yehave forsakenme, and therefore have Ialsoleftyou in the handof Shishak. Whereupon the princesof Israeland the kinghumbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous. And when the LORDsawthatthey humbled themselves, the wordof the LORDcametoShemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will notdestroythem, but I will grantthem somedeliverance; and my wrathshall notbe poured outupon Jerusalemby the handof Shishak. Neverthelessthey shall behis servants; that they may knowmy service, and the serviceof the kingdomsof the countries. So Shishakkingof Egyptcame upagainstJerusalem, and took awaythe treasuresof the houseof the LORD, and the treasuresof the king's house; he tookall: he carried awayalso the shieldsof goldwhichSolomonhad made. Instead ofwhich kingRehoboammadeshieldsof brass, and committed them tothe handsof the chiefof the guard, that keptthe entranceof the king's house. And whenthe kingentered intothe houseof the LORD, the guardcameand fetchedthem, and brought them againintothe guardchamber. And when he humbled himself, the wrathof the LORDturnedfromhim, that he would notdestroy him altogether: and alsoin Judahthingswentwell. So kingRehoboamstrengthened himselfin Jerusalem, and reigned: forRehoboam was oneand fortyyearsoldwhen he began to reign, and he reignedseventeenyearsin Jerusalem, the citywhichthe LORDhad chosenout of allthe tribesof Israel, to puthis namethere. And his mother's name was Naamahan Ammonitess. And he didevil, becausehe preparednothis heartto seekthe LORD. Now the actsof Rehoboam, firstand last, are theynotwrittenin the bookof Shemaiahthe prophet, and of Iddothe seerconcerning genealogies? And there were warsbetween Rehoboamand Jeroboamcontinually. And Rehoboamsleptwithhis fathers, and was buriedin the cityof David: and Abijahhis sonreignedin his stead.
