And onesaid, Be content, I pray thee, and gowiththy servants. And he answered, Iwill go. So he wentwiththem. And when they cameto Jordan, they cut downwood. But as onewasfellinga beam, the axe headfellintothe water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for itwas borrowed. And the manof Godsaid, Wherefellit? And he showedhim the place. And he cut downa stick, and cast it in thither; and the irondid swim. Therefore saidhe, Take it upto thee. And he put outhis hand, and tookit. Then the kingof Syriawarredagainst Israel, and took counselwithhis servants, saying, Insuch and sucha place shall be my camp. And the manof Godsentuntothe kingof Israel, saying, Bewarethat thou pass notsucha place; forthitherthe Syriansare come down. And the kingof Israelsenttothe placewhichthe manof Godtoldhim and warnedhim of, and saved himselfthere, notoncenortwice. Therefore the heartof the kingof Syriawas sore troubledforthisthing; and he calledhis servants, and saiduntothem, Will ye notshowme whichofus is forthe kingof Israel? And oneof his servantssaid, None, my lord, O king: butElisha, the prophetthat is in Israel, telleththe kingof Israelthe wordsthatthou speakestin thy bedchamber. And he said, Goand spywherehe is , that I may sendand fetchhim. And it was toldhim, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan. Therefore senthe thitherhorses, and chariots, and a greathost: and they cameby night, and compassedthe cityabout. And when the servantof the manof Godwas risenearly, and gone forth, behold, a hostcompassedthe cityboth with horsesand chariots. And his servantsaiduntohim, Alas, my master! howshall we do? And he answered, Fearnot: forthey that be withus are morethan they that be withthem. And Elishaprayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, openhis eyes, that he may see. And the LORDopenedthe eyesof the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was fullof horsesand chariotsof fireround aboutElisha. And when they came downtohim, Elishaprayeduntothe LORD, and said, Smitethispeople, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smotethem with blindnessaccording to the wordof Elisha. And Elishasaiduntothem, This is notthe way, neither is thisthe city: followme, and I will bringyou tothe manwhomye seek. But he ledthem to Samaria. And it came to pass, when they were comeinto Samaria, that Elishasaid, LORD, openthe eyesof these men , that they may see. And the LORDopenedtheir eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midstof Samaria. And the kingof IsraelsaiduntoElisha, when he sawthem, My father, shall I smite them ? shall I smite them ? And he answered, Thou shalt notsmite them : wouldest thousmitethose whomthou hast taken captivewith thy swordand with thy bow? setbreadand waterbeforethem, that they may eatand drink, and gototheir master. And he preparedgreatprovisionfor them: and when they had eatenand drunk, he sent them away, and they wenttotheir master. So the bandsof Syriacamenomoreinto the landof Israel. And it came to passafterthis, that Ben-hadad kingof Syriagatheredallhis host, and went up, and besiegedSamaria. And there wasa greatfaminein Samaria: and, behold, they besiegedit, untilan ass's headwas sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth partof a cabof dove's dungfor five pieces of silver. And as the kingof Israelwaspassing byuponthe wall, there crieda womanuntohim, saying, Help, my lord, O king. And he said, If the LORDdo nothelpthee, whenceshall I helpthee? out ofthe barnfloor, orout ofthe winepress? And the kingsaidunto her, Whataileth thee? And she answered, Thiswomansaiduntome, Givethy son, that we may eathim today, and we will eatmy sontomorrow. So we boiledmy son, and did eathim: and I saiduntoher on the nextday, Givethy son, that we may eathim: and she hath hidher son. And it came to pass, when the kingheardthe wordsof the woman, that he renthis clothes; and hepassed byuponthe wall, and the peoplelooked, and, behold, he had sackclothwithinuponhis flesh. Then he said, Goddosoand morealsoto me, ifthe headof Elishathe sonof Shaphatshall standonhim this day. But Elishasatin his house, and the elderssatwithhim; and the king senta manfrom beforehim: but erethe messengercametohim, hesaidtothe elders, Seeye howthissonof a murdererhath sentto take awaymine head? look, when the messengercometh, shutthe door, and hold him fastat the door: is notthe soundof his master's feetbehindhim? And while he yettalkedwiththem, behold, the messengercame downuntohim: and he said, Behold, thisevil is ofthe LORD; whatshould I waitfor the LORDany longer?
