In the threeand twentiethyearof Joashthe sonof Ahaziahkingof JudahJehoahazthe sonof Jehubegan to reignoverIsraelin Samaria, and reigned seventeenyears. And he did that which was evilin the sightof the LORD, and followedthe sinsof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat, whichmade Israelto sin; he departednottherefrom. And the angerof the LORDwas kindledagainst Israel, and he deliveredthem into the handof Hazaelkingof Syria, and into the handof Ben-hadad the sonof Hazael, all their days. And Jehoahazbesoughtthe LORD, and the LORDhearkeneduntohim: forhe sawthe oppressionof Israel, becausethe kingof Syriaoppressedthem. (And the LORDgaveIsraela savior, so that they went outfrom underthe handof the Syrians: and the childrenof Israeldweltin their tents, as formerly. Neverthelessthey departednotfrom the sinsof the houseof Jeroboam, whomade Israelsin, but walkedtherein: and there remainedthe grovealsoin Samaria.) Neitherdid he leaveof the peopleto Jehoahazbutfiftyhorsemen, and tenchariots, and tenthousandfootmen; forthe kingof Syriahad destroyedthem, and had madethem like the dustby threshing. Now the restof the actsof Jehoahaz, and allthathe did, and his might, are theynotwritteninthe bookof the chroniclesof the kingsof Israel? And Jehoahazsleptwithhis fathers; and they buriedhim in Samaria: and Joashhis sonreignedin his stead. In the thirtyand seventhyearof Joashkingof Judahbegan Jehoashthe sonof Jehoahazto reignoverIsraelin Samaria, and reigned sixteenyears. And he did that which was evilin the sightof the LORD; he departednotfrom allthe sinsof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat, whomade Israelsin: but he walkedtherein. And the restof the actsof Joash, and allthathe did, and his mightwherewithhe foughtagainstAmaziahkingof Judah, are theynotwritteninthe bookof the chroniclesof the kingsof Israel? And Joashsleptwithhis fathers; and Jeroboamsatuponhis throne: and Joashwas buriedin Samariawiththe kingsof Israel. Now Elishawas fallen sickofhis sicknesswhereofhe died. And Joashthe kingof Israelcame downuntohim, and weptoverhis face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariotof Israel, and the horsementhereof. And Elishasaidunto him, Takebowand arrows. And he tookuntohim bowand arrows. And he saidto the kingof Israel, Putthine handuponthe bow. And he puthis hand upon it : and Elishaputhis handsuponthe king's hands. And he said, Openthe windoweastward. And he opened it . Then Elishasaid, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrowof the LORD's deliverance, and the arrowof deliverancefrom Syria: for thou shalt smitethe Syriansin Aphek, tillthou have consumed them . And he said, Takethe arrows. And he took them . And he saidunto the kingof Israel, Smiteupon the ground. And he smotethrice, and stayed. And the manof Godwas wrothwithhim, and said, Thou shouldest have smittenfiveorsixtimes; thenhadst thou smittenSyriatillthou hadst consumed it : whereas nowthou shalt smiteSyria but thrice. And Elishadied, and they buriedhim. And the bandsof the Moabitesinvadedthe landat the coming inof the year. And it came to pass, as theywere buryinga man, that, behold, they spieda band of men ; and they castthe maninto the sepulcherof Elisha: and when the manwas let down, and touchedthe bonesof Elisha, he revived, and stood uponhis feet. But Hazaelkingof SyriaoppressedIsraelallthe daysof Jehoahaz. And the LORDwas graciousunto them, and had compassion onthem, and had respectuntothem, becauseof his covenantwithAbraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and wouldnotdestroythem, neithercasthe them fromhis presenceasyet. So Hazaelkingof Syriadied; and Ben-hadad his sonreignedin his stead. And Jehoashthe sonof Jehoahaztookagainout of the handof Ben-hadad the sonof Hazaelthe cities, whichhe had takenout of the handof Jehoahazhis fatherby war. Threetimesdid Joashbeathim, and recoveredthe citiesof Israel.
