And when he saw that , he arose, and wentforhis life, and cameto Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and lefthis servantthere. But he himselfwenta day's journeyinto the wilderness, and cameand sat downunderajuniper tree: and he requestedfor himselfthat he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take awaymy life; forI am notbetterthan my fathers. And as he layand sleptunderajuniper tree, behold, thenan angeltouchedhim, and saidunto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cakebaked on the coals, and a cruseof waterat his head. And he did eatand drink, and laid him downagain. And the angelof the LORDcame againthe second time, and touchedhim, and said, Arise and eat; becausethe journey is too greatforthee. And he arose, and did eatand drink, and wentin the strengthof thatmeatfortydaysand fortynightsuntoHorebthe mountof God. And he camethitheruntoa cave, and lodgedthere; and, behold, the wordof the LORD came tohim, and he saidunto him, Whatdoest thou here, Elijah? And he said, I have been very jealousfor the LORDGodof hosts: forthe childrenof Israelhave forsakenthy covenant, thrown downthine altars, and slainthy prophetswith the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seekmy life, to take it away. And he said, Go forth, and standupon the mountbeforethe LORD. And, behold, the LORDpassed by, and a greatand strongwindrentthe mountains, and broke in piecesthe rocksbeforethe LORD; but the LORD was notin the wind: and afterthe windan earthquake; but the LORD was notin the earthquake: And afterthe earthquakea fire; but the LORD was notin the fire: and afterthe firea stillsmallvoice. And it was so , when Elijahheard it , that he wrappedhis facein his mantle, and went out, and stoodin the entering inof the cave. And, behold, there came a voiceuntohim, and said, Whatdoest thou here, Elijah? And he said, I have been very jealousfor the LORDGodof hosts: becausethe childrenof Israelhave forsakenthy covenant, thrown downthine altars, and slainthy prophetswith the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seekmy life, to take it away. And the LORDsaiduntohim, Go, returnon thy wayto the wildernessof Damascus: and when thou comest, anointHazael to be kingoverSyria: And Jehuthe sonof Nimshishalt thou anoint to be kingoverIsrael: and Elishathe sonof Shaphatof Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophetin thy room. And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeththe swordof Hazaelshall Jehuslay: and him that escapethfrom the swordof Jehushall Elishaslay. Yet I have left me seventhousandin Israel, allthe kneeswhichhave notbowedunto Baal, and everymouthwhichhath notkissedhim. So he departedthence, and foundElishathe sonof Shaphat, who was plowing with twelveyoke of oxen beforehim, and hewith the twelfth: and Elijahpassedbyhim, and casthis mantleuponhim. And he leftthe oxen, and ranafterElijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kissmy fatherand my mother, and then I will followthee. And he saidunto him, Goback again: forwhathave I doneto thee? And he returned backfromhim, and tooka yokeof oxen, and slewthem, and boiledtheir fleshwith the instrumentsof the oxen, and gaveunto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and wentafterElijah, and ministeredunto him.
