But kingSolomonlovedmanystrangewomen, together withthe daughterof Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; Ofthe nations concerning whichthe LORDsaiduntothe childrenof Israel, Ye shall notgo into them, neithershall theycome inunto you: for surelythey will turn awayyour heartaftertheir gods: Solomoncleavedunto these in love. And he hadsevenhundredwives, princesses, and threehundredconcubines: and his wivesturned awayhis heart. For it came to pass, whenSolomonwas old, that his wivesturned awayhis heartafterothergods: and his heartwasnotperfectwiththe LORDhis God, as was the heartof Davidhis father. For SolomonwentafterAshtoreththe goddessof the Zidonians, and afterMilcomthe abominationof the Ammonites. And Solomondidevilin the sightof the LORD, and went not fullyafterthe LORD, as did Davidhis father. Thendid Solomonbuilda high placefor Chemosh, the abominationof Moab, in the hillthat is beforeJerusalem, and for Molech, the abominationof the childrenof Ammon. And likewisedidhe for allhis strangewives, which burnt incenseand sacrificedunto their gods. And the LORDwas angrywith Solomon, becausehis heartwas turnedfromthe LORDGodof Israel, which had appeareduntohim twice, And had commandedhim concerningthisthing, that he should notgoafterothergods: but he keptnotthat whichthe LORDcommanded. Wherefore the LORDsaidunto Solomon, Forasmuchasthisisdone ofthee, and thou hast notkeptmy covenantand my statutes, whichI have commandedthee, I will surely rendthe kingdomfromthee, and will giveit to thy servant. Notwithstandingin thy daysI will notdoit for David thy father's sake: but I will rendit out of the handof thy son. HowbeitI will notrend awayallthe kingdom; but will giveonetribeto thy sonfor David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sakewhichI have chosen. And the LORDstirred upan adversaryunto Solomon, Hadadthe Edomite: he was of the king's seedin Edom. For it came to pass, when Davidwasin Edom, and Joabthe captainof the hostwas gone upto burythe slain, after he had smitteneverymalein Edom; ( Forsixmonthsdid Joabremaintherewith allIsrael, untilhe had cut offeverymalein Edom:) That Hadadfled, heand certainEdomitesof his father's servantswithhim, to gointo Egypt; Hadad being yet a littlechild. And they aroseout of Midian, and cameto Paran: and they tookmenwiththem out of Paran, and they cameto Egypt, untoPharaohkingof Egypt; which gavehim a house, and appointedhim victuals, and gavehim land. And Hadadfoundgreatfavorin the sightof Pharaoh, so that he gavehim to wifethe sisterof his own wife, the sisterof Tahpenesthe queen. And the sisterof Tahpenesborehim Genubathhis son, whom TahpenesweanedinPharaoh's house: and Genubathwasin Pharaoh's householdamongthe sonsof Pharaoh. And when Hadadheardin EgyptthatDavidsleptwithhis fathers, and thatJoabthe captainof the hostwas dead, HadadsaidtoPharaoh, Let me depart, that I may gotomine own country. Then Pharaohsaidunto him, Butwhathast thoulackedwithme, that, behold, thou seekestto gotothine own country? And he answered, Nothing: howbeitlet me go in any wise. And Godstirred him up another adversary, Rezonthe sonof Eliadah, whichfledfromhis lordHadadezerkingof Zobah: And he gatheredmenuntohim, and becamecaptainover a band, when Davidslewthem of Zobah : and they wentto Damascus, and dwelttherein, and reignedin Damascus. And he wasan adversaryto Israelallthe daysof Solomon, besidethe mischiefthatHadad did : and he abhorredIsrael, and reignedoverSyria. And Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat, an EphrathiteofZereda, Solomon's servant, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widowwoman, even he lifted up his handagainst the king. And this was the causethathe lifted up his handagainst the king: SolomonbuiltMillo, and repairedthe breachesof the cityof Davidhis father. And the manJeroboam was a mightyman of valor: and Solomonseeingthe young manthathewas industrious, he made him rulerover allthe chargeof the houseof Joseph. And it came to passat thattimewhen Jeroboamwent outof Jerusalem, that the prophetAhijahthe Shilonitefoundhim in the way; and hehad clad himselfwith a newgarment; and they two were alonein the field: And Ahijahcaughtthe newgarmentthat was onhim, and rentit in twelvepieces: And he saidto Jeroboam, Takethee tenpieces: forthussaiththe LORD, the Godof Israel, Behold, I will rendthe kingdomout of the handof Solomon, and will givetentribesto thee: (But he shall haveonetribefor my servant David's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake, the citywhichI have chosenout of allthe tribesof Israel:) Becausethatthey have forsakenme, and have worshipedAshtoreththe goddessof the Zidonians, Chemoshthe godof the Moabites, and Milcomthe godof the childrenof Ammon, and have notwalkedin my ways, to do that which is rightin mine eyes, and to keep my statutesand my judgments, as did Davidhis father. Howbeit I will nottakethe wholekingdomout of his hand: butI will makehim princeallthe daysof his lifefor David my servant's sake, whomI chose, becausehe keptmy commandmentsand my statutes: But I will takethe kingdomout of his son's hand, and will giveit unto thee, even tentribes. And unto his sonwill I giveonetribe, thatDavidmy servantmay havea lightalwaysbeforeme in Jerusalem, the citywhichI have chosenme to putmy namethere. And I will takethee, and thou shalt reignaccording to allthatthy souldesireth, and shalt bekingoverIsrael. And it shall be, ifthou wilt hearken untoallthatI commandthee, and wilt walkin my ways, and do that is rightin my sight, to keepmy statutesand my commandments, asDavidmy servantdid; that I will bewiththee, and buildthee a surehouse, asI builtfor David, and will giveIsraelunto thee. And I will forthisafflictthe seedof David, butnotforever. Solomonsoughttherefore to killJeroboam. And Jeroboamarose, and fledinto Egypt, untoShishakkingof Egypt, and wasin Egyptuntilthe deathof Solomon. And the restof the actsof Solomon, and allthathe did, and his wisdom, are theynotwritteninthe bookof the actsof Solomon? And the timethatSolomonreignedin JerusalemoverallIsrael was fortyyears. And Solomonsleptwithhis fathers, and was buriedin the cityof Davidhis father: and Rehoboamhis sonreignedin his stead.
