And he tooksomeof his brethren, even fivemen, and presentedthem untoPharaoh. And Pharaohsaiduntohis brethren, What is your occupation? And they saiduntoPharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, bothwe, and alsoour fathers. They saidmoreover untoPharaoh, For to sojournin the landare we come; forthy servantshave nopasturefor their flocks; forthe famine is sorein the landof Canaan: nowtherefore, we pray thee, let thy servantsdwellin the landof Goshen. And PharaohspokeuntoJoseph, saying, Thy fatherand thy brethrenare comeuntothee: The landof Egypt is beforethee; in the bestof the landmake thy fatherand brethrento dwell; in the landof Goshenlet them dwell: and ifthou knowest any menof activityamong them, then makethem rulersover mycattle. And Josephbrought inJacobhis father, and sethim beforePharaoh: and JacobblessedPharaoh. And PharaohsaiduntoJacob, Howold art thou? And JacobsaiduntoPharaoh, The daysof the yearsof my pilgrimage are a hundredand thirtyyears: fewand evilhave the daysof the yearsof my lifebeen, and have notattained untothe daysof the yearsof the lifeof my fathersin the daysof their pilgrimage. And JacobblessedPharaoh, and went outfrom beforePharaoh. And Josephplacedhis fatherand his brethren, and gavethem a possessionin the landof Egypt, in the bestof the land, in the landof Rameses, asPharaohhad commanded. And Josephnourishedhis father, and his brethren, and allhis father's household, with bread, according to their families. And there was nobreadin allthe land; forthe famine was verysore, so that the landof Egyptand all the landof Canaanfaintedby reason ofthe famine. And Josephgathered upallthe moneythat was foundin the landof Egypt, and in the landof Canaan, for the cornwhichtheybought: and Josephbroughtthe moneyinto Pharaoh's house. And when moneyfailedin the landof Egypt, and in the landof Canaan, allthe EgyptianscameuntoJoseph, and said, Giveus bread: for whyshould we diein thy presence? forthe moneyfaileth. And Josephsaid, Giveyour cattle; and I will giveyou for your cattle, ifmoneyfail. And they broughttheir cattleuntoJoseph: and Josephgavethem bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattleof the herds, and for the asses: and he fedthem with breadfor alltheir cattlefor thatyear. When thatyearwas ended, they cameuntohim the secondyear, and saidunto him, We will nothide it frommy lord, how thatour moneyis spent; my lordalso hathour herdsof cattle; there is notaught leftin the sightof my lord, butour bodies, and our lands: Whereforeshall we diebefore thine eyes, bothweandour land? buyus and our landfor bread, and weand our landwill beservantsunto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and notdie, that the landbe not desolate. And Josephboughtallthe landof Egyptfor Pharaoh; forthe Egyptianssoldevery manhis field, becausethe famineprevailedoverthem: so the landbecamePharaoh's. And as for the people, he removedthem to citiesfrom one endof the bordersof Egypteven tothe other endthereof. Onlythe landof the priestsboughthe not; forthe priestshad a portion assigned them ofPharaoh, and did eattheir portionwhichPharaohgavethem: whereforethey soldnottheir lands. Then Josephsaiduntothe people, Behold, I have boughtyou this dayand your landfor Pharaoh: lo, here is seedfor you, and ye shall sowthe land. And it shall come to passin the increase, that ye shall givethe fifth part unto Pharaoh, and fourpartsshall beyour own, for seedof the field, and for your food, and for themof your households, and for foodfor your little ones. And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us findgracein the sightof my lord, and we will bePharaoh's servants. And Josephmadeit a lawoverthe landof Egyptuntothisday, that Pharaohshould have the fifth part ; exceptthe landof the priestsonly, which becamenotPharaoh's. And Israeldweltin the landof Egypt, in the countryof Goshen; and they had possessionstherein, and grew, and multipliedexceedingly. And Jacoblivedin the landof Egyptseventeenyears: so the whole ageof Jacobwasa hundredfortyand sevenyears. And the timedrew nighthat Israelmust die: and he calledhis sonJoseph, and saidunto him, IfnowI have foundgracein thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy handundermy thigh, and dealkindlyand trulywithme; buryme not, I pray thee, in Egypt: But I will liewithmy fathers, and thou shalt carryme out of Egypt, and buryme in their burial place. And he said, Iwill doas thou hast said. And he said, Swearunto me. And he sworeunto him. And Israelbowed himselfuponthe bed's head.
