And Isaacsent awayJacob: and he wentto Padan-aram untoLaban, sonof Bethuelthe Syrian, the brotherof Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother. When EsausawthatIsaachad blessedJacob, and sent him awayto Padan-aram, to takehim a wifefrom thence; and that as he blessedhim he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt nottakea wifeof the daughtersof Canaan; And that Jacobobeyedhis fatherand his mother, and was goneto Padan-aram; And Esauseeingthatthe daughtersof Canaanpleased notIsaachis father; Then wentEsauuntoIshmael, and tookuntothe wiveswhich he had Mahalaththe daughterof IshmaelAbraham's son, the sisterof Nebajoth, to be his wife. And Jacobwent outfrom Beer-sheba, and wenttoward Haran. And he lightedupon a certain place, and tarried there all night, becausethe sunwas set; and he tookof the stonesof that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay downin thatplaceto sleep. And he dreamed, and beholda ladderset upon the earth, and the topof it reachedto heaven: and beholdthe angelsof Godascendingand descendingon it. And, behold, the LORDstoodaboveit, and said, I am the LORDGodof Abrahamthy father, and the Godof Isaac: the landwhereonthouliest, to thee will I giveit, and to thy seed; And thy seedshall beas the dustof the earth, and thou shalt spread abroadto the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seedshall allthe familiesof the earthbe blessed. And, behold, I am withthee, and will keepthee in all places whitherthou goest, and will bring thee againintothisland; forI will notleavethee, untilI have done that whichI have spokento thee of. And Jacobawakedout of his sleep, and he said, Surelythe LORDisin thisplace; and Iknew it not. And he was afraid, and said, Howdreadful is thisplace! this is noneother butthe houseof God, and this is the gateof heaven. And Jacobrose up earlyin the morning, and tookthe stonethathe had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and pouredoiluponthe topof it. And he calledthe nameof thatplaceBethel: butthe nameof that city was called Luzat the first. And Jacobvoweda vow, saying, IfGodwill bewithme, and will keepme in thiswaythatIgo, and will giveme breadto eat, and raimentto put on, So that I come againtomy father's housein peace; then shall the LORDbemy God: And thisstone, whichI have set for a pillar, shall beGod's house: and of allthatthou shalt giveme I will surely give the tenthunto thee.
