Thus the heavensand the earthwere finished, and allthe hostof them. And on the seventhdayGodendedhis workwhichhe had made; and he restedon the seventhdayfrom allhis workwhichhe had made. And Godblessedthe seventhday, and sanctifiedit: becausethat in it he had restedfrom allhis workwhichGodcreatedand made. These are the generationsof the heavensand of the earthwhen they were created, in the daythat the LORDGodmadethe earthand the heavens, And everyplantof the fieldbeforeit wasin the earth, and everyherbof the fieldbeforeit grew: forthe LORDGodhad notcaused it to rainuponthe earth, and there was nota manto tillthe ground. But there went upa mistfromthe earth, and wateredthe wholefaceof the ground. And the LORDGodformedman of the dustofthe ground, and breathedinto his nostrilsthe breathof life; and manbecamea livingsoul. And the LORDGodplanteda gardeneastwardin Eden; and therehe putthe manwhomhe had formed. And out ofthe groundmade the LORDGodto groweverytreethat is pleasantto the sight, and goodfor food; the treeof lifealso in the midstof the garden, and the treeof knowledgeof goodand evil. And a riverwent outof Edento waterthe garden; and from thenceit was parted, and becameinto fourheads. The nameof the first is Pison: that is itwhich compasseththe wholelandof Havilah, where there is gold; And the goldof thatland is good: there is bdelliumand the onyxstone. And the nameof the secondriver is Gihon: the same is it that compasseththe wholelandof Ethiopia. And the nameof the thirdriver is Hiddekel: that is itwhich goethtoward the eastof Assyria. And the fourthriver is Euphrates. And the LORDGodtookthe man, and puthim into the gardenof Edento dressit and to keepit. And the LORDGodcommandedthe man, saying, Of everytreeof the gardenthou mayest freely eat: But of the treeof the knowledgeof goodand evil, thou shalt noteatofit: forin the daythat thou eatestthereofthou shalt surely die. And the LORDGodsaid, It is notgoodthat the manshould bealone; I will makehim a helpmeet for him. And out ofthe groundthe LORDGodformedeverybeastof the field, and everyfowlof the air; and brought them untoAdamto seewhathe would callthem: and whatsoeverAdamcalledevery livingcreature, that was the namethereof. And Adamgavenamesto allcattle, and to the fowlof the air, and to everybeastof the field; but for Adamthere was notfounda helpmeet for him. And the LORDGodcaused a deep sleepto falluponAdam, and he slept: and he tookoneof his ribs, and closed upthe fleshinsteadthereof; And the rib, whichthe LORDGodhad takenfromman, madehe a woman, and broughther untothe man. And Adamsaid, This is nowboneof my bones, and fleshof my flesh: sheshall be calledWoman, becauseshewas takenout of Man. Thereforeshall a manleavehis fatherand his mother, and shall cleaveunto his wife: and they shall beoneflesh. And they werebothnaked, the manand his wife, and were notashamed.
