The wordthatcametoJeremiahconcerningallthe Jewswhich dwellin the landof Egypt, which dwellat Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the countryof Pathros, saying, Thussaiththe LORDof hosts, the Godof Israel; Yehave seenallthe evilthatI have broughtuponJerusalem, and uponallthe citiesof Judah; and, behold, thisdaythey are a desolation, and noman dwelleththerein, Becauseof their wickednesswhichthey have committedto provoke me to anger, in that they wentto burn incense, and to serveothergods, whomthey knewnot, neither they, ye, nor your fathers. Howbeit I sentuntoyou allmy servantsthe prophets, rising earlyand sending them , saying, Oh, donotthisabominablethingthatI hate. But they hearkenednot, norinclinedtheir earto turnfrom their wickedness, to burnnoincense unto othergods. Wherefore my furyand mine angerwas poured forth, and was kindledin the citiesof Judahand in the streetsof Jerusalem; and they arewasted and desolate, as at thisday. Therefore nowthussaiththe LORD, the Godof hosts, the Godof Israel; Whereforecommitye this greatevilagainstyour souls, to cut offfrom you manand woman, childand suckling, out ofJudah, to leaveyou noneto remain; In that ye provoke me unto wrathwith the worksof your hands, burning incenseunto othergodsin the landof Egypt, whitheryebe goneto dwell, thatye might cut yourselves off, and thatye might bea curseand a reproachamong allthe nationsof the earth? Have ye forgottenthe wickednessof your fathers, and the wickednessof the kingsof Judah, and the wickednessof their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickednessof your wives, whichthey have committedin the landof Judah, and in the streetsof Jerusalem? They are nothumbled even untothisday, neitherhave they feared, norwalkedin my law, nor in my statutes, thatI setbeforeyou and beforeyour fathers. Thereforethussaiththe LORDof hosts, the Godof Israel; Behold, I will setmy faceagainst you for evil, and to cut offallJudah. And I will takethe remnantof Judah, thathave settheir facesto go intothe landof Egyptto sojournthere, and they shall allbe consumed, and fallin the landof Egypt; they shall even be consumedby the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the leasteven untothe greatest, by the swordand by the famine: and they shall bean execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach. For I will punishthem that dwellin the landof Egypt, asI have punishedJerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: So that noneof the remnantof Judah, which are goneinto the landof Egyptto sojournthere, shallescapeor remain, that they should returninto the landof Judah, to the whichtheyhave a desireto returnto dwellthere: fornoneshall returnbutsuch as shall escape. Then allthe menwhich knewthattheir wiveshad burned incenseunto othergods, and allthe womenthat stood by, a greatmultitude, even allthe peoplethat dweltin the landof Egypt, in Pathros, answeredJeremiah, saying, As for the wordthatthou hast spokenuntous in the nameof the LORD, we will nothearkenuntothee. Butwe will certainly dowhatsoeverthinggoeth forthout of our own mouth, to burn incenseunto the queenof heaven, and to pour outdrink offeringsunto her, aswe have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the citiesof Judah, and in the streetsof Jerusalem: for then had we plentyof victuals, and werewell, and sawnoevil. But sincewe left offto burn incenseto the queenof heaven, and to pour outdrink offeringsunto her, we have wantedall things , and have been consumedby the swordand by the famine. And whenweburned incenseto the queenof heaven, and poured outdrink offeringsunto her, did we makeher cakesto worshipher, and pour outdrink offeringsunto her, withoutour men? Then Jeremiahsaiduntoallthe people, tothe men, and tothe women, and toallthe peoplewhich had given him that answer, saying, The incensethatye burnedin the citiesof Judah, and in the streetsof Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the peopleof the land, did notthe LORDrememberthem, and cameit not intohis mind? So that the LORDcouldnolongerbear, becauseof the evilof your doings, and becauseof the abominationswhichye have committed; therefore isyour landa desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, withoutan inhabitant, as at thisday. Becauseye have burned incense, and becauseye have sinnedagainst the LORD, and have notobeyedthe voiceof the LORD, norwalkedin his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; thereforethisevilis happened untoyou, as at thisday. Moreover Jeremiahsaiduntoallthe people, and toallthe women, Hearthe wordof the LORD, allJudahthat are in the landof Egypt: Thussaiththe LORDof hosts, the Godof Israel, saying; Yeand your wiveshave both spokenwith your mouths, and fulfilledwith your hand, saying, We will surely performour vowsthatwe have vowed, to burn incenseto the queenof heaven, and to pour outdrink offeringsunto her: ye will surely accomplishyour vows, and surely performyour vows. Thereforehearye the wordof the LORD, allJudahthat dwellin the landof Egypt; Behold, I have swornby my greatname, saiththe LORD, that my nameshall nomorebenamedin the mouthof anymanof Judahin allthe landof Egypt, saying, The LordGODliveth. Behold, I will watchoverthem for evil, and notfor good: and allthe menof Judahthat are in the landof Egyptshall be consumedby the swordand by the famine, untilthere be an endof them. Yet a smallnumberthat escapethe swordshall returnout ofthe landof Egyptinto the landof Judah, and allthe remnantof Judah, that are goneinto the landof Egyptto sojournthere, shall knowwhosewordsshall stand, mine, or theirs. And this shall be a signunto you, saiththe LORD, thatIwill punishyou in thisplace, thatye may knowthatmy wordsshall surely standagainstyou for evil: Thussaiththe LORD; Behold, I will givePharaoh Hophrakingof Egyptinto the handof his enemies, and into the handof them that seekhis life; asI gaveZedekiahkingof Judahinto the handof Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylon, his enemy, and that soughthis life.
