Hezekiahbegan to reign when he was fiveand twentyyearsold, and he reignednineand twentyyearsin Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Abijah, the daughterof Zechariah. And he did that which was rightin the sightof the LORD, according to allthatDavidhis fatherhad done. Hein the firstyearof his reign, in the firstmonth, openedthe doorsof the houseof the LORD, and repairedthem. And he brought inthe priestsand the Levites, and gathered them togetherinto the eaststreet, And saidunto them, Hearme, ye Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctifythe houseof the LORDGodof your fathers, and carry forththe filthinessout ofthe holy place . Forour fathershave trespassed, and done that which was evilin the eyesof the LORDour God, and have forsakenhim, and have turned awaytheir facesfrom the habitationof the LORD, and turned their backs. Alsothey have shut upthe doorsof the porch, and put outthe lamps, and have notburnedincensenorofferedburnt offeringsin the holy place unto the Godof Israel. Wherefore the wrathof the LORDwasuponJudahand Jerusalem, and he hath deliveredthem to trouble, to astonishment, and to hissing, asyeseewith your eyes. For, lo, our fathershave fallenby the sword, and our sonsand our daughtersand our wives are in captivityforthis. Now it is inmine heartto makea covenantwith the LORDGodof Israel, that his fiercewrathmay turn awayfromus. My sons, be notnownegligent: forthe LORDhath chosenyou to standbeforehim, to servehim, and that ye should ministerunto him, and burn incense. Then the Levitesarose, Mahaththe sonof Amasai, and Joelthe sonof Azariah, ofthe sonsof the Kohathites: and ofthe sonsof Merari, Kishthe sonof Abdi, and Azariahthe sonof Jehalelel: and ofthe Gershonites; Joahthe sonof Zimmah, and Edenthe sonof Joah: And ofthe sonsof Elizaphan; Shimri, and Jeiel: and ofthe sonsof Asaph; Zechariah, and Mattaniah: And ofthe sonsof Heman; Jehiel, and Shimei: and ofthe sonsof Jeduthun; Shemaiah, and Uzziel. And they gatheredtheir brethren, and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandmentof the king, by the wordsof the LORD, to cleansethe houseof the LORD. And the priestswentinto the inner partof the houseof the LORD, to cleanse it , and brought outallthe uncleannessthatthey foundin the templeof the LORDinto the courtof the houseof the LORD. And the Levitestook it , to carry it outabroadinto the brookKidron. Now they beganon the first day of the firstmonthto sanctify, and on the eighthdayof the monthcamethey to the porchof the LORD: so they sanctifiedthe houseof the LORDin eightdays; and in the sixteenthdayof the firstmonththey made an end. Then they wentintoHezekiahthe king, and said, We have cleansedallthe houseof the LORD, and the altarof burnt offering, with allthe vesselsthereof, and the shewbreadtable, with allthe vesselsthereof. Moreover allthe vessels, whichkingAhazin his reigndid cast awayin his transgression, have we preparedand sanctified, and, behold, they are beforethe altarof the LORD. Then Hezekiahthe kingrose early, and gatheredthe rulersof the city, and went upto the houseof the LORD. And they broughtsevenbullocks, and sevenrams, and sevenlambs, and sevenhe goats, for a sin offeringforthe kingdom, and forthe sanctuary, and forJudah. And he commandedthe prieststhe sonsof Aaronto offer them onthe altarof the LORD. So they killedthe bullocks, and the priestsreceivedthe blood, and sprinkled it on the altar: likewise, when they had killedthe rams, they sprinkledthe bloodupon the altar: they killedalso the lambs, and they sprinkledthe bloodupon the altar. And they brought forththe he goats for the sin offeringbeforethe kingand the congregation; and they laidtheir handsuponthem: And the priestskilledthem, and they made reconciliationwiththeir bloodupon the altar, to make an atonementforallIsrael: forthe kingcommanded that the burnt offeringand the sin offering should be made for allIsrael. And he setthe Levitesin the houseof the LORDwith cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandmentof David, and of Gadthe king's seer, and Nathanthe prophet: for so was the commandmentof the LORDbyhis prophets. And the Levitesstoodwith the instrumentsof David, and the priestswith the trumpets. And Hezekiahcommandedto offerthe burnt offeringupon the altar. And whenthe burnt offeringbegan, the songof the LORDbegan also with the trumpets, and withthe instruments ordained by Davidkingof Israel. And allthe congregationworshiped, and the singerssang, and the trumpeterssounded: and all this continued untilthe burnt offeringwas finished. And when they had made an endof offering, the kingand allthat were presentwithhim bowedthemselves, and worshiped. Moreover Hezekiahthe kingand the princescommandedthe Levitesto sing praiseunto the LORDwith the wordsof David, and of Asaphthe seer. And they sang praiseswithgladness, and they bowed their headsand worshiped. Then Hezekiahansweredand said, Nowye have consecratedyourselves unto the LORD, come nearand bringsacrificesand thank offeringsinto the houseof the LORD. And the congregationbrought insacrificesand thank offerings; and as many aswere of a freeheartburnt offerings. And the numberof the burnt offerings, whichthe congregationbrought, wasthreescore and tenbullocks, a hundredrams, and two hundredlambs: allthese were for a burnt offeringto the LORD. And the consecrated things were sixhundredoxenand threethousandsheep. Butthe priestsweretoo few, so that they couldnotflayallthe burnt offerings: wherefore their brethrenthe Levitesdid helpthem, tillthe workwas ended, and untilthe other priestshad sanctified themselves: forthe Levites were more uprightin heartto sanctify themselvesthan the priests. And alsothe burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fatof the peace offerings, and the drink offeringsfor every burnt offering. So the serviceof the houseof the LORDwas set in order. And Hezekiahrejoiced, and allthe people, thatGodhad preparedthe people: forthe thingwas done suddenly.
