And Joshuagatheredallthe tribesof Israelto Shechem, and calledfor the eldersof Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselvesbeforeGod. And Joshuasaiduntoallthe people, Thussaiththe LORDGodof Israel, Your fathersdwelton the other sideof the floodin old time, even Terah, the fatherof Abraham, and the fatherof Nachor: and they servedothergods. And I tookyour fatherAbrahamfrom the other sideof the flood, and ledhim throughout allthe landof Canaan, and multipliedhis seed, and gavehim Isaac. And I gaveunto IsaacJacoband Esau: and I gaveunto EsaumountSeir, to possessit; but Jacoband his childrenwent downinto Egypt. I sentMosesalso and Aaron, and I plaguedEgypt, according to that whichI didamongthem: and afterwardI brought you out. And I brought your fathers outof Egypt: and ye cameunto the sea; and the Egyptianspursuedafteryour fatherswith chariotsand horsemenunto the Redsea. And when they crieduntothe LORD, he putdarknessbetweenyou and the Egyptians, and broughtthe seauponthem, and coveredthem; and your eyeshave seenwhatI have donein Egypt: and ye dweltin the wildernessa longseason. And I broughtyou intothe landof the Amorites, which dwelton the other sideJordan; and they foughtwithyou: and I gavethem into your hand, that ye might possesstheir land; and I destroyedthem from beforeyou. Then Balakthe sonof Zippor, kingof Moab, aroseand warredagainst Israel, and sentand calledBalaamthe sonof Beorto curseyou: But I wouldnothearkenunto Balaam; therefore he blessedyou still: so I deliveredyou out of his hand. And ye went overJordan, and cameuntoJericho: and the menof Jerichofoughtagainst you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I deliveredthem into your hand. And I sentthe hornetbeforeyou, which drove them outfrom beforeyou, even the twokingsof the Amorites; but notwith thy sword, norwith thy bow. And I have givenyou a landfor whichye did notlabor, and citieswhichye builtnot, and ye dwellin them; of the vineyardsand oliveyardswhichye plantednotdo yeeat. Now thereforefearthe LORD, and servehim in sincerityand in truth: and put awaythe godswhichyour fathersservedon the other sideof the flood, and in Egypt; and serveye the LORD. And ifit seem evilunto youto servethe LORD, chooseyou this daywhomye will serve; whetherthe godswhichyour fathersservedthat were on the other sideof the flood, orthe godsof the Amorites, in whose landyedwell: but as for meand my house, we will servethe LORD. And the peopleansweredand said, God forbidthat we should forsakethe LORD, to serveothergods; Forthe LORDour God, he it is that broughtus up and our fathersout of the landof Egypt, from the houseof bondage, and whichdidthosegreatsignsin our sight, and preservedus in allthe waywhereinwe went, and among allthe peoplethroughwhom we passed: And the LORDdrove outfrom beforeus allthe people, even the Amoriteswhich dweltin the land: therefore will wealsoservethe LORD; forhe is our God. And Joshuasaiduntothe people, Ye cannotservethe LORD: forhe is a holyGod; he is a jealousGod; he will notforgiveyour transgressionsnor your sins. Ifye forsakethe LORD, and servestrangegods, then he will turnand do you hurt, and consumeyou, afterthathe hath done you good. And the peoplesaiduntoJoshua, Nay; butwe will servethe LORD. And Joshuasaiduntothe people, Ye are witnessesagainst yourselves thatyehave chosenyou the LORD, to servehim. And they said, We are witnesses. Nowtherefore put away, said he , the strangegodswhich are amongyou, and inclineyour heartuntothe LORDGodof Israel. And the peoplesaiduntoJoshua, The LORDour Godwill we serve, and his voicewill we obey. So Joshuamadea covenantwith the peoplethatday, and setthem a statuteand an ordinancein Shechem. And Joshuawrotethesewordsin the bookof the lawof God, and tooka greatstone, and set it upthereunderan oak, that was by the sanctuaryof the LORD. And Joshuasaiduntoallthe people, Behold, thisstoneshall bea witnessunto us; forithath heardallthe wordsof the LORDwhichhe spokeuntous: it shall betherefore a witnessunto you, lestye denyyour God. So Joshualet the peopledepart, every manunto his inheritance. And it came to passafterthesethings, that Joshuathe sonof Nun, the servantof the LORD, died, being a hundredand tenyears old. And they buriedhim in the borderof his inheritancein Timnathserah, which is in mountEphraim, on the north sideof the hillof Gaash. And Israelservedthe LORDallthe daysof Joshua, and allthe daysof the eldersthatoverlivedJoshua, and whichhad knownallthe worksof the LORD, thathe had donefor Israel. And the bonesof Joseph, whichthe childrenof Israelbrought upout of Egypt, buriedthey in Shechem, in a parcelof groundwhichJacobboughtofthe sonsof Hamorthe fatherof Shechemfor a hundredpieces of silver: and it becamethe inheritanceof the childrenof Joseph. And Eleazarthe sonof Aarondied; and they buriedhim in a hill that pertained to Phinehashis son, whichwas givenhim in mountEphraim.
