Aftertwodayswas the feast of thepassover, andof unleavened bread: andthechief priestsandthescribessoughthowthey might takehimbycraft, and put him to death. Butthey said, Notonthefeast day, lestthere bean uproarof thepeople. AndbeinginBethanyinthehouseof Simontheleper, as hesat at meat, there camea womanhavingan alabaster boxof ointmentof spikenardvery precious; andshe brokethebox, and poured it onhishead. Andthere weresomethat had indignationwithinthemselves, andsaid, Whywas thiswasteof theointmentmade? Foritmight have beensoldfor more thanthree hundredpence, andhave been givento thepoor. Andthey murmured againsther. AndJesussaid, Let her alone; whytrouble ye her? she hath wrought a goodworkonme. For ye havethepoorwithyoualways, andwhensoever ye will ye maydothemgood: butme ye havenotalways. She hath donewhatshecould: she is come aforehand to anointmybodytotheburying. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoeverthisgospel shall be preachedthroughoutthewholeworld, this alsothatshe hath done shall be spoken offor a memorial of her. AndJudasIscariot, oneof thetwelve, wentuntothechief priests, tobetrayhimunto them. Andwhen theyheard it, they were glad, andpromisedto givehimmoney. Andhe soughthowhe might convenientlybetrayhim. AndJesussaithunto them, All ye shall be offended because ofmethisnight: for it is written, I will smitetheshepherd, andthesheep shall be scattered. Butafter that I amrisen, I will go beforeyouintoGalilee. ButPetersaidunto him, Althoughallshall be offended, yet will notI. AndJesussaithunto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even inthisnight, beforethecockcrowtwice, thou shalt denymethrice. Buthespakethe morevehemently, IfIshoulddie withthee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewisealsosaidthey all. Andthey cametoa placewhichwas namedGethsemane: andhe saithto hisdisciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. Andhe takethwithhimPeterandJamesandJohn, andbeganto be sore amazed, andto be very heavy; Andsaithunto them, Mysoulis exceeding sorrowfuluntodeath: tarry ye here, andwatch. Andhe went forwarda little, and fellontheground, andprayedthat, ifit werepossible, thehourmight passfromhim. Andhe said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take awaythiscupfromme: neverthelessnotwhatIwill, butwhatthou wilt. Andhe cometh, andfindeththemsleeping, andsaithunto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldestnot thou watchonehour? Watch ye andpray, lest ye enterintotemptation. Thespirittruly is ready, buttheflesh is weak. Andagainhe went away, and prayed, and spakethesamewords. Andwhen he returned, he foundthemasleepagain, ( fortheireyeswereheavy,) neitherwistthey whatto answerhim. Andhe comeththethird time, andsaithunto them, Sleep onnow, and take your rest; it is enough, thehour is come; behold, theSon of man is betrayedintothehands of sinners. Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayethme is at hand. Andimmediately, while heyetspake, comethJudas, oneof thetwelve, andwithhima greatmultitudewithswordsandstaves, fromthechief priestsandthescribesandtheelders. Andhe that betrayedhimhad giventhema token, saying, WhomsoeverI shall kiss, that sameishe; takehim, andlead him away safely. Andas soon as he was come, he goethstraightwayto him, and saith, Master, master; andkissedhim. Andtheylaidtheirhandsonhim, andtookhim. Andoneof them that stood bydrewa sword, and smotea servantof thehigh priest, andcut offhisear. AndJesusansweredand saidunto them, Are ye come out, asagainst a thief, withswordsand with staves to takeme? I wasdailywithyouinthetempleteaching, and ye tookmenot: buttheScriptures must be fulfilled. Andthey allforsookhim, and fled. Andthere followedhimacertainyoung man, havinga linen clothcast about his naked body ; andtheyoung menlaid hold onhim: Andheleftthelinen cloth, and fledfromthemnaked. Andthey led Jesus awaytothehigh priest: andwith himwere assembledallthechief priestsandtheeldersandthescribes. AndPeterfollowedhimafar off, evenintothepalaceof thehigh priest: andhe satwiththeservants, andwarmedhimself atthefire. Andthechief priestsandallthecouncilsoughtfor witnessagainstJesusto put him to death; andfoundnone. Formanybare false witnessagainsthim, buttheirwitnessagreed not together. Andthere arosecertain, and bare false witnessagainsthim, saying, Weheardhimsay, Iwill destroythistemplethat is made with hands, andwithinthreedaysI will buildanothermade without hands. Butneithersodid theirwitnessagree together. Andthehigh prieststood upinthemidst, and askedJesus, saying, Answerestthou nothing? what is it which thesewitness againstthee? Butheheld his peace, andanswerednothing. Againthehigh priestaskedhim, andsaidunto him, ArtthoutheChrist, theSonof theBlessed? AndJesussaid, Iam: and ye shall seetheSon of mansittingon the right hand of power, andcomingintheclouds of heaven. Thenthehigh priestrenthisclothes, and saith, Whatneedwe any furtherwitnesses? Ye have heardtheblasphemy: whatthinkye? Andtheyallcondemnedhimto beguiltyof death. Andsomebeganto spit onhim, andto coverhisface, andto buffethim, andto sayunto him, Prophesy: andtheservantsdid strikehimwith the palms of their hands. Andas Peterwasbeneathinthepalace, there comethoneof themaidsof thehigh priest: Andwhen she sawPeterwarminghimself, she looked uponhim, and said, Andthoualso wastwithJesusof Nazareth. Buthedenied, saying, I knownot, neitherunderstandI whatthousayest. Andhe wentoutintotheporch; andthe cockcrew. Anda maidsawhimagain, and beganto sayto them that stood by, Thisis one ofthem. Andhedeniedit again. Anda littleafter, they that stood bysaidagainto Peter, Surelythou art one ofthem: forthouarta Galilaean, andthyspeechagreeth thereto. Buthebeganto curseandto swear, saying, I knownotthismanof whomye speak. Andthesecond timethe cockcrew. AndPetercalled to mindthewordthatJesussaidunto him, Beforethe cockcrowtwice, thou shalt denymethrice. Andwhen he thought thereon, he wept.
