And he saiduntothem, Lodgeherethis night, and I will bringyou wordagain, asthe LORDshall speakuntome: and the princesof MoababodewithBalaam. And GodcameuntoBalaam, and said, Whatmen are thesewiththee? And the princesof Moabrose up, and they wentuntoBalak, and said, Balaamrefusethto comewithus. And Balaksentyetagainprinces, more, and more honorablethan they. And they cametoBalaam, and saidto him, ThussaithBalakthe sonof Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinderthee from cominguntome: ForI will promote thee unto very great honor, and I will dowhatsoeverthou sayestuntome: cometherefore, I pray thee, curseme thispeople. And Balaamansweredand saiduntothe servantsof Balak, IfBalakwould giveme his housefullof silverand gold, I cannotgo beyondthe wordof the LORDmy God, to dolessormore. Nowtherefore, I pray you, tarryyealsoherethis night, that I may knowwhatthe LORDwill sayuntome more. And GodcameuntoBalaamat night, and saidunto him, Ifthe mencometo callthee, rise up, and gowiththem; but yetthe wordwhichI shall sayuntothee, that shalt thou do. And Balaamrose upin the morning, and saddledhis ass, and wentwiththe princesof Moab. And God's angerwas kindledbecausehewent: and the angelof the LORDstoodin the wayfor an adversaryagainst him. Now hewas ridinguponhis ass, and his twoservants were withhim. And the asssawthe angelof the LORDstandingin the way, and his sworddrawnin his hand: and the assturned asideout ofthe way, and wentinto the field: and Balaamsmotethe ass, to turnher into the way. But the angelof the LORDstoodin a pathof the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wallon that side. And when the asssawthe angelof the LORD, she thrust herselfuntothe wall, and crushedBalaam's footagainstthe wall: and he smoteher again. And the angelof the LORDwentfurther, and stoodin a narrowplace, where was nowayto turneither to the right handor to the left. And when the asssawthe angelof the LORD, she fell downunderBalaam: and Balaam's angerwas kindled, and he smotethe asswith a staff. And the LORDopenedthe mouthof the ass, and she saidunto Balaam, Whathave I doneunto thee, thatthou hast smittenme thesethreetimes? And Balaamsaidunto the ass, Becausethou hast mockedme: I wouldthere werea swordin mine hand, fornowwould I killthee. And the asssaiduntoBalaam, Am notIthine ass, uponwhichthou hast riddenever since I was thine untothisday? was I ever wontto dosounto thee? And he said, Nay. Then the LORDopenedthe eyesof Balaam, and he sawthe angelof the LORDstandingin the way, and his sworddrawnin his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flaton his face. And the angelof the LORDsaiduntohim, Whereforehast thou smittenthine assthesethreetimes? behold, Iwent outto withstandthee, because thy wayis perversebeforeme: And the asssawme, and turnedfromme thesethreetimes: unlessshe had turnedfromme, surelynowalsoI had slainthee, and saved her alive. And Balaamsaiduntothe angelof the LORD, I have sinned; forI knewnotthatthoustoodestin the wayagainstme: nowtherefore, ifit displeasethee, I will get me back again. And the angelof the LORDsaiduntoBalaam, Gowiththe men: but onlythe wordthatI shall speakuntothee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaamwentwiththe princesof Balak. And when BalakheardthatBalaamwas come, he went outto meethim untoa cityof Moab, which is inthe borderof Arnon, which is in the utmostcoast. And BalaksaiduntoBalaam, Did I notearnestly senduntothee to callthee? whereforecamestthou notuntome? am I not ableindeedto promote thee to honor? And BalaamsaiduntoBalak, Lo, I am comeuntothee: have I nowany power at allto sayany thing? the wordthatGodputtethin my mouth, that shall I speak. And BalaamwentwithBalak, and they cameunto Kirjath-huzoth. And Balakofferedoxenand sheep, and sentto Balaam, and to the princesthat were withhim. And it came to passon the morrow, that BalaktookBalaam, and brought him upinto the high placesof Baal, that thencehe might seethe utmost part of the people.
