Behold, the LORDmaketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroadthe inhabitantsthereof. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, sowith the giver of usuryto him. The landshall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: forthe LORDhath spokenthisword. The earthmourneth and fadeth away, the worldlanguisheth and fadeth away, the haughtypeopleof the earthdo languish. The earthalso is defiledunderthe inhabitantsthereof; becausethey have transgressedthe laws, changedthe ordinance, brokenthe everlastingcovenant. Thereforehath the cursedevouredthe earth, and they that dwelltherein are desolate: thereforethe inhabitantsof the earthare burned, and fewmenleft. The new winemourneth, the vinelanguisheth, allthe merryhearteddo sigh. The mirthof tabretsceaseth, the noiseof them that rejoiceendeth, the joyof the harpceaseth. They shall notdrinkwinewith a song; strong drinkshall be bitterto them that drinkit. The cityof confusionis broken down: everyhouseis shut up, that no man may come in. There is a cryingforwinein the streets; alljoyis darkened, the mirthof the landis gone. In the cityis leftdesolation, and the gateis smittenwith destruction. Whenthusit shall bein the midstof the landamongthe people, there shall be as the shakingof an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapeswhenthe vintageis done. Theyshall lift uptheir voice, they shall singfor the majestyof the LORD, they shall cry aloudfrom the sea. Whereforeglorifyye the LORDin the fires, even the nameof the LORDGodof Israelin the islesof the sea. From the uttermost partof the earthhave we heardsongs, even gloryto the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woeunto me! the treacherous dealershave dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealershave dealt very treacherously. Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are uponthee, O inhabitantof the earth. And it shall come to pass, that he who fleethfrom the noiseof the fearshall fallintothe pit; and he that cometh upout of the midstof the pitshall be takenin the snare: forthe windowsfrom on highare open, and the foundationsof the earthdo shake. The earthis utterly broken down, the earthis clean dissolved, the earthis moved exceedingly. The earthshall reel to and frolike a drunkard, and shall be removedlike a cottage; and the transgressionthereof shall be heavyuponit; and it shall fall, and notriseagain. And it shall come to passin thatday, that the LORDshall punishthe hostof the high ones that are on high, and the kingsof the earthuponthe earth. And they shall be gathered together, as prisonersare gatheredinthe pit, and shall be shut upinthe prison, and after manydaysshall they be visited. Then the moonshall be confounded, and the sunashamed, whenthe LORDof hostsshall reignin mountZion, and in Jerusalem, and beforehis ancientsgloriously.
