Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hearmy speeches, and hearkento allmy words. Behold, nowI have openedmy mouth, my tonguehath spokenin my mouth. My words shall be of the uprightnessof my heart: and my lipsshall utterknowledgeclearly. The Spiritof Godhath mademe, and the breathof the Almightyhath given me life. Ifthou canstanswerme, set thy words in orderbeforeme, stand up. Behold, I am according to thy wishin God's stead: Ialsoam formedout of the clay. Behold, my terrorshall notmake thee afraid, neithershall my handbe heavyuponthee. Surelythou hast spokenin mine hearing, and I have heardthe voiceof thy words, saying , Iam cleanwithouttransgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquityin me. Behold, he findethoccasionsagainstme, he countethme for his enemy, He puttethmy feetin the stocks, he markethallmy paths. Behold, in thisthou art notjust: I will answerthee, thatGodis greaterthan man. Whydost thou striveagainsthim? forhe giveth notaccountof anyof his matters. ForGodspeakethonce, yea twice, yet man perceivethit not. In a dream, in a visionof the night, when deep sleepfallethuponmen, in slumberingsuponthe bed; Thenhe openeththe earsof men, and sealeththeir instruction, That he may withdrawman from his purpose, and hidepridefrom man. He keepeth backhis soulfromthe pit, and his lifefrom perishingby the sword. He is chastenedalso with painuponhis bed, and the multitudeof his boneswith strong pain : So that his lifeabhorrethbread, and his souldaintymeat. His fleshis consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were notseenstick out. Yea, his souldraweth nearunto the grave, and his lifeto the destroyers. Ifthere bea messengerwithhim, an interpreter, oneamonga thousand, to showunto manhis uprightness: Then he is graciousunto him, and saith, Deliverhim from going downto the pit: I have founda ransom. His fleshshall be fresherthan a child's: he shall returnto the daysof his youth: He shall prayuntoGod, and he will be favorableunto him: and he shall seehis facewith joy: for he will renderunto manhis righteousness. He lookethuponmen, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profitedme not; He will deliverhis soulfrom goinginto the pit, and his lifeshall seethe light. Lo, allthese things workethGodoftentimeswithman, To bring backhis soulfromthe pit, to be enlightenedwith the lightof the living. Mark well, O Job, hearkenunto me: hold thy peace, and Iwill speak. Ifthou hastany thing to say, answerme: speak, forI desireto justifythee. Ifnot, hearkenunto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teachthee wisdom.
