Josiah was eightyearsoldwhen he began to reign, and he reignedthirtyand oneyearsin Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughterof Adaiahof Boscath. And he did that which was rightin the sightof the LORD, and walkedin allthe wayof Davidhis father, and turned not asideto the right handor to the left. And it came to passin the eighteenthyearof kingJosiah, that the kingsentShaphanthe sonof Azaliah, the sonof Meshullam, the scribe, to the houseof the LORD, saying, Go uptoHilkiahthe highpriest, that he may sumthe silverwhich is broughtinto the houseof the LORD, whichthe keepersof the doorhave gatheredofthe people: And let them deliverit intothe handof the doersof the work, that have the oversightof the houseof the LORD: and let them giveit to the doersof the workwhich is in the houseof the LORD, to repairthe breachesof the house, Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buytimberand hewnstoneto repairthe house. Howbeitthere was noreckoningmade withthem of the moneythat was deliveredintotheir hand, becausetheydealtfaithfully. And Hilkiahthe highpriestsaiduntoShaphanthe scribe, I have foundthe bookof the lawin the houseof the LORD. And Hilkiahgavethe booktoShaphan, and he readit. And Shaphanthe scribecametothe king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servantshave gatheredthe moneythat was foundin the house, and have deliveredit intothe handof them that dothe work, that have the oversightof the houseof the LORD. And Shaphanthe scribeshowedthe king, saying, Hilkiahthe priesthath deliveredme a book. And Shaphanreadit beforethe king. And it came to pass, when the kinghad heardthe wordsof the bookof the law, that he renthis clothes. And the kingcommandedHilkiahthe priest, and Ahikamthe sonof Shaphan, and Achborthe sonof Michaiah, and Shaphanthe scribe, and Asahiaha servantof the king's, saying, Goye, inquireof the LORDforme, and forthe people, and forallJudah, concerningthe wordsof thisbookthat is found: forgreat is the wrathof the LORDthatis kindledagainst us, becauseour fathershave nothearkeneduntothe wordsof thisbook, to doaccording unto allthat which is writtenconcerningus. So Hilkiahthe priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, wentuntoHuldahthe prophetess, the wifeof Shallumthe sonof Tikvah, the sonof Harhas, keeperof the wardrobe; (now shedweltin Jerusalemin the college;) and they communedwithher. And she saiduntothem, Thussaiththe LORDGodof Israel, Tellthe manthatsentyou tome, Thussaiththe LORD, Behold, I will bringeviluponthisplace, and uponthe inhabitantsthereof, even allthe wordsof the bookwhichthe kingof Judahhath read: Becausethey have forsakenme, and have burned incenseunto othergods, thatthey might provoke me to angerwith allthe worksof their hands; therefore my wrathshall be kindledagainst thisplace, and shall notbe quenched. But tothe kingof Judahwhich sentyou to inquireof the LORD, thusshall ye saytohim, Thussaiththe LORDGodof Israel, As touching the wordswhichthou hast heard; Becausethine heartwas tender, and thou hast humbled thyselfbeforethe LORD, when thou heardestwhatI spokeagainstthisplace, and againstthe inhabitantsthereof, that they should becomea desolationand a curse, and hast rentthy clothes, and weptbeforeme; Ialsohave heard thee , saiththe LORD. Beholdtherefore, I will gatherthee untothy fathers, and thou shalt be gatheredintothy gravein peace; and thine eyesshall notseeallthe evilwhichIwill bringuponthisplace. And they broughtthe kingwordagain.
