Alsoin time past, when Saulwaskingoverus, thouwasthe that leddest outand broughtestin Israel: and the LORDsaidto thee Thoushalt feedmy peopleIsrael, and thoushalt bea captainoverIsrael. So allthe eldersof Israelcametothe kingto Hebron; and kingDavidmadea leaguewith them in Hebronbeforethe LORD: and they anointedDavidkingoverIsrael. David was thirtyyearsoldwhen he began to reign, and he reignedfortyyears. In Hebronhe reignedoverJudahsevenyearsand sixmonths: and in Jerusalemhe reignedthirtyand threeyearsoverallIsraeland Judah. And the kingand his menwentto Jerusalemuntothe Jebusites, the inhabitantsof the land: which spokeunto David, saying, Exceptthou take awaythe blindand the lame, thou shalt notcome inhither: thinking, Davidcannotcome inhither. Nevertheless Davidtookthe strongholdof Zion: the same is the cityof David. And Davidsaidon thatday, Whosoevergetteth upto the gutter, and smiteththe Jebusites, and the lameand the blind, that are hatedof David's soul, he shall be chief and captain . Whereforethey said, The blindand the lameshall notcomeintothe house. So Daviddweltin the fort, and calledit the cityof David. And Davidbuiltround aboutfromMilloand inward. And Davidwent on, and grew great, and the LORDGodof hosts was withhim. And Hiramkingof TyresentmessengerstoDavid, and cedartrees, and carpenters, and masons: and they builtDavida house. And Davidperceivedthatthe LORDhad establishedhim kingoverIsrael, and thathe had exaltedhis kingdomfor his peopleIsrael's sake. And Davidtook him moreconcubinesand wivesout of Jerusalem, afterhe was comefrom Hebron: and there were yetsonsand daughtersbornto David. And these be the namesof those that were bornunto him in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, Ibharalso, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia, And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet. But when the Philistinesheardthatthey had anointedDavidkingoverIsrael, allthe Philistinescame upto seekDavid; and Davidheard of it , and went downtothe hold. The Philistinesalso cameand spread themselvesin the valleyof Rephaim. And Davidinquiredof the LORD, saying, Shall I go uptothe Philistines? wilt thou deliverthem into mine hand? And the LORDsaiduntoDavid, Go up: forI will doubtless deliverthe Philistinesinto thine hand. And Davidcameto Baal-perazim, and Davidsmotethem there, and said, The LORDhath broken forth uponmine enemiesbeforeme, as the breachof waters. Thereforehe calledthe nameof thatplaceBaal-perazim. And therethey lefttheir images, and Davidand his menburnedthem. And the Philistinescame upyetagain, and spread themselvesin the valleyof Rephaim. And when Davidinquiredof the LORD, he said, Thou shalt notgo up; but fetch a compassbehindthem, and comeupon them over againstthe mulberry trees. And let it be, when thou hearestthe soundof a goingin the topsof the mulberry trees, that thenthou shalt bestirthyself: forthenshall the LORDgo outbeforethee, to smitethe hostof the Philistines. And Daviddidso, asthe LORDhad commandedhim; and smotethe Philistinesfrom Gebauntil thou cometo Gazer.
