And it came to passafterthis, that Absalomthe sonof Davidhad a fairsister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnonthe sonof Davidlovedher. And Amnonwas so vexed, that he fell sickforhis sisterTamar; forshe was a virgin; and Amnonthoughtit hardfor him to doany thingto her. But Amnonhad a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the sonof ShimeahDavid's brother: and Jonadab was a verysubtleman. And he saidunto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, leanfrom dayto day? wilt thou nottellme? And Amnonsaidunto him, IloveTamar, my brotherAbsalom's sister. And Jonadabsaidunto him, Lay thee downonthy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy fathercomethto seethee, sayuntohim, I pray thee, let my sisterTamarcome, and giveme meat, and dressthe meatin my sight, thatI may see it , and eat it at her hand. So Amnonlay down, and made himself sick: and when the kingwas cometo seehim, Amnonsaiduntothe king, I pray thee, let Tamarmy sistercome, and makeme a coupleof cakesin my sight, that I may eatat her hand. Then DavidsenthometoTamar, saying, Gonowto thy brotherAmnon's house, and dresshim meat. So Tamarwentto her brotherAmnon's house; and hewas laid down. And she tookflour, and kneaded it , and made cakesin his sight, and did bakethe cakes. And she tooka pan, and poured them outbeforehim; but he refusedto eat. And Amnonsaid, Have outallmenfromme. And they went outeverymanfromhim. And AmnonsaiduntoTamar, Bringthe meatinto the chamber, that I may eatof thine hand. And Tamartookthe cakeswhichshe had made, and brought them into the chamberto Amnonher brother. And when she had brought them untohim to eat, he took holdof her, and saidunto her, Comeliewithme, my sister. And she answeredhim, Nay, my brother, do notforceme; fornosuch thingought to be donein Israel: donotthou thisfolly. And I, whithershall I cause my shameto go? and as for thee, thou shalt beas oneof the foolsin Israel. Nowtherefore, I pray thee, speakuntothe king; forhe will notwithholdme fromthee. Howbeit he wouldnothearkenunto her voice: but, being strongerthan she, forcedher, and lay withher. Then Amnonhatedher exceedingly; so thatthe hatredwherewithhe hatedher was greaterthan the lovewherewithhe had lovedher. And Amnonsaidunto her, Arise, be gone. And she saidunto him, There is nocause: thisevilin sending me away is greaterthan the otherthatthou didstuntome. But he wouldnothearkenunto her. Then he calledhis servantthat ministeredunto him, and said, Putnowthis woman out from me, and boltthe doorafterher. And she had a garmentof divers colorsuponher: forwith suchrobeswere the king's daughters that were virginsappareled. Then his servantbroughther out, and boltedthe doorafterher. And Tamarputashesonher head, and renther garmentof divers colorsthat was onher, and laidher handonher head, and went oncrying. And Absalomher brothersaiduntoher, Hath Amnonthy brotherbeenwiththee? but holdnowthy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regardnotthisthing. So Tamarremaineddesolatein her brotherAbsalom's house.
