And the LORDappeareduntohim, and said, Go not downinto Egypt; dwellin the landwhichI shall tellthee of: Sojournin thisland, and I will bewiththee, and will blessthee; forunto thee, and unto thy seed, I will giveallthesecountries, and I will performthe oathwhichI sworeunto Abrahamthy father; And I will make thy seedto multiplyas the starsof heaven, and will giveunto thy seedallthesecountries; and in thy seedshall allthe nationsof the earthbe blessed; BecausethatAbrahamobeyedmy voice, and keptmy charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. And Isaacdweltin Gerar: And the menof the placeasked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: forhe fearedto say, She is my wife; lest, said he , the menof the placeshould killme forRebekah; becauseshe was fairto look upon. And it came to pass, whenhe had been therea longtime, that Abimelechkingof the Philistineslooked outata window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sportingwith Rebekahhis wife. And AbimelechcalledIsaac, and said, Behold, of a suretyshe is thy wife: and howsaidstthou, She is my sister? And Isaacsaiduntohim, BecauseI said, LestI dieforher. And Abimelechsaid, What is thisthou hast doneunto us? oneof the peoplemight lightlyhave lainwiththy wife, and thou shouldest have broughtguiltinessuponus. And Abimelechchargedall his people, saying, He that toucheththismanor his wifeshall surely be put to death. Then Isaacsowedin thatland, and receivedin the sameyeara hundredfold: and the LORDblessedhim. And the manwaxed great, and wentforward, and grewuntilhe became very great: For he hadpossessionof flocks, and possessionof herds, and great storeof servants: and the Philistinesenviedhim. For allthe wellswhichhis father's servantshad diggedin the daysof Abrahamhis father, the Philistineshad stoppedthem, and filledthem with earth. And AbimelechsaiduntoIsaac, Gofromus; forthou art much mightierthanwe. And Isaacdepartedthence, and pitched his tentin the valleyof Gerar, and dweltthere. And Isaacdiggedagainthe wellsof water, whichthey had diggedin the daysof Abrahamhis father; for the Philistineshad stoppedthem afterthe deathof Abraham: and he calledtheir namesafter the namesby whichhis fatherhad calledthem. And Isaac's servantsdiggedin the valley, and foundtherea wellof springingwater. And the herdsmenof Gerardid strivewithIsaac's herdsmen, saying, The water is ours: and he calledthe nameof the wellEsek; becausethey strovewithhim. And they diggedanotherwell, and stroveforthat also: and he calledthe nameof it Sitnah. And he removedfrom thence, and diggedanotherwell; and forthat they strovenot: and he calledthe nameof it Rehoboth; and he said, Fornowthe LORDhath made roomfor us, and we shall be fruitfulin the land. And he went upfrom thenceto Beer-sheba. And the LORDappeareduntohim the samenight, and said, I am the Godof Abrahamthy father: fearnot, forI am withthee, and will blessthee, and multiplythy seedformy servantAbraham's sake. And he builtan altarthere, and calledupon the nameof the LORD, and pitchedhis tentthere: and thereIsaac's servantsdiggeda well. Then Abimelechwenttohim from Gerar, and Ahuzzathone of his friends, and Phicholthe chief captainof his army. And Isaacsaiduntothem, Whereforecomeye tome, seeing yehateme, and have sent me awayfromyou? And they said, We saw certainlythatthe LORDwaswiththee: and we said, Let there benowan oathbetweenus, even betweenus and thee, and let us makea covenantwiththee; Thatthou wilt dous no hurt, aswe have nottouchedthee, and aswe have doneuntothee nothing butgood, and have sent thee awayin peace: thou art nowthe blessedof the LORD. And he madethem a feast, and they did eatand drink. And they rose up quicklyin the morning, and sworeoneto another: and Isaacsent them away, and they departedfromhim in peace. And it came to passthe sameday, that Isaac's servantscame, and toldhim concerningthe wellwhichthey had digged, and saidunto him, We have foundwater. And he calledit Shebah: thereforethe nameof the city is Beer-sheba untothisday. And Esauwasfortyyearsoldwhen he tookto wifeJudiththe daughterof Beerithe Hittite, and Bashemaththe daughterof Elonthe Hittite: Which werea griefof mindunto Isaacand to Rebekah.
